Celebrate the Lunar New Year with the Asian American Affinity Group and Student Activities this Thursday in the mezzanine. There will be a variety of activities you can participate in to celebrate the Year of the Snake.
Lunar New Year, also called the Spring Festival, is a 15-day celebration marking the start of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. Traditions during the Lunar New Year include exchanging red envelopes with money, enjoying festive meals, watching lion dances, and decorating with red colors to symbolize good luck and prosperity. Lunar New Year is an important holiday in China but is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Help Others Soar by Supporting the Wings Donation Drive
Starting today Fighting for Females is hosting a donation drive for Wings. Wings is an organization that provides housing and other services to families fleeing domestic abuse.
Items needed include:
- Women's, men's and children's clothing
- Accessories, jewelry, scarves, handbags, shoes
- Housewares, linens, artwork
Drop off bins will be located at entrance 4, entrance 18, the Library and in room 217.
Last Call for Yearbook Photos
The final date for yearbook photos is this Thursday, February 6th.
Seniors can take their photos in the mezzanine from 10:15 am - 1:30 pm. Underclassmen can retake their photo from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm.
Brrrr...It's Cold Out There!
The Ski & Snowboard Club enjoyed the cold, snowy weather during their first two trips of the year. Their first trip to Crystal Ridge, WI took place on January 17th. Their second trip took place just this past weekend when they traveled to Little Switzerland in Slinger, WI. If you are interested in braving the cold during future trips, contact Mr. Leu at sleu@leyden212.org.
AAAG Goes to Chinatown
On Wednesday, January 22nd, the Asian American Affinity Group ventured to Chicago's Chinatown for a night of good food & fun. Chicago's Chinatown is a historic neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago that's known for its Chinese-inspired architecture, restaurants, and shops. 23 club members participated in this annual field trip. Contact Mr. Leu if you are interested in learning more about the Asian American Affinity Group.
