August 14, 2024
Dear Buena Vista Parents,
What a great first day of school we had today! I was able to visit every classroom and students were doing such a great job learning the daily routines and procedures and working hard to get to know each other and build community. It was an amazing first day here.
Thank you to all of the parents who dropped by this morning to have coffee with the principal. It was great sharing my background and passion for education and letting you know about all of the great programs we have in WCSD. If you missed it I hope you can make future coffees or if evenings are better hop into one of our PTA zoom meetings.
Drop-off and Pick-up
This is a gentle reminder that there is No Parent Parking in the Kindergarten Circle (also referred to as School Lane or Picnic Lane). This is a pick up and drop off zone only and all parents must stay with their car. If you would like to walk your child to class you can park on Buena Vista (on the street, please do not block driveways), in the Alvarado parking lot (the back gate is unlocked during drop off and pick-up), or on San Juan Ave. Thank you all for your cooperation on this.
School Safety
The safety of our students and staff always comes first so please remember that all visitors to school during the school day must check in and out of the front office. Access to the office is from the front door to the school only. If a student needs to contact their parent/guardian during the school day they must call from the front office. Please no phone calls/texting to or from parents using personal phones or watches during the school day. Phones and watches will need to be turned off and put in backpacks during the school day. Please also see the WCSD Mobile Communication Policy BP 5131.8.
Residency Verification and Data Confirmation
A quick reminder! All families must re-verify residency. Also, make sure you have done the data confirmation so we have parents' most accurate contact information.

Mobile Communication Devices
The latest research has revealed the growing concern and detrimental impacts of social media on our children. To minimize distractions and promote a focused learning environment, we will be enforcing our district cell phone/watches/earbuds/ mobile /technology - BP 5131.8: Mobile Communication Devices. Beginning this school year, when students enter class, all phones, smartwatches and earbuds must be turned off and placed in backpacks. Our goal is to have a school day in which students spend their time interacting with their peers and teachers in real time. Our Governing Board, Superintendent and our administrative team are committed to an inclusive process and equitable implementation that will begin by engaging our community in conversation.
Save the Dates!
- Friday, August 23rd -- Outdoor Movie Night --as soon as it is dark enough (Located on our field)

Welcome to Walnut Creek public schools and the 2024-25 school year!
For 40 years, the Walnut Creek Education Foundation (WCEF TK-12) has been our districts’ partner, helping to bridge the gap between state funding and the actual needs of our students.
This year, our goal is to raise $1.6 million for the Walnut Creek School District and Las Lomas High School. These funds will support enriching programs like Art, Science, and Music; provide academic and social-emotional well-being resources; maintain smaller class sizes; and keep libraries open.
