August 5, 2024

Principal's Welcome
Happy Sunday, Grey Wolf Family! 🐺
We’re off to a strong start as we wrap up the month of August! Our students are settling into the rhythm of school, buses are running smoothly, and our dedicated staff is ready to provide even more support to ensure a successful year.
After School University Begins Soon!
To kick off the year strong, we’re excited to announce the start of After School University. This program offers additional resources to help students excel in their studies. More details in the Newsletter below.
Important Reminders for the Week:
Tardy Policy:
Please encourage your student to arrive on time to their classes to avoid any disruptions. We’ve implemented a 30-second reminder before the tardy bell to help students get to class on time.Student IDs:
All students must have their ID visible at all times—worn around the neck, not on backpacks or around the waist. This is crucial for maintaining campus security.Early Release Students & Missed Bus to KCC/CTC:
Students with early release who choose to stay on campus must sign in and remain in the library. If your student misses the bus, they should notify the front office, and we will assist in resolving the situation. However, if the situation cannot be resolved, students must stay in the library until their next class on campus begins. Roaming the hallways is not permitted for safety reasons.Cell Phone and Electronic Devices Policy:
Our cell phone policy is off to a strong start, and we thank you for reinforcing it with your students. Beginning Monday, August 26th, we will distribute cell phone pouches to students, similar to how we issue textbooks. Please see the distribution schedule below for more details.
- Yonder Pouch Distribution for Cell Phones: This week, we will begin distributing Yonder Pouches to securely store student cell phones during school hours from 8:00 AM - 4:15 PM each Day. Distribution will take place through English classes, following the schedule below:
- Monday, August 26, 2024: English 1 classes
- Tuesday, August 27, 2024: English 2 classes
- Wednesday, August 28, 2024: English 3 and English 4 classes
- Thursday, August 29, 2024: All CTC students and any students who do not have an English class
- Friday, August 30, 2024: Make-up day for absent students (visit the library with a pass)
Each secondary student will be assigned a personal, secure pouch for their cell phone at the start of the school year. Students are expected to bring this pouch to school daily and return it in good condition at the end of the year.
We understand that some parents may choose not to provide their students with cell phones or may prefer that their students not bring electronic devices to school. If your student does bring a device, they must either surrender it to the appropriate assistant principal or request a secure pouch in line with Administrative Procedure VI-EE.
Thank you for your continued support in making this school year a success. Together, we can ensure a safe, productive, and enjoyable environment for all our students.
Here's to a fantastic year ahead! 🐾
Go Grey Wolves!

After School University
Any student that needs academic support in their core courses, including Foreign Languages, can attend a tutoring session after school Monday through Thursday.
Students must be in their tutoring room by 4:30 and must conduct themselves in a manner that supports our building expectations. If your student is needing academic support, please encourage them to attend.
Please read more about KISD's Cell Phone Free schools below
As we begin this exciting new school year, I wanted to remind everyone that Shoemaker High School is a cell phone-free campus between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. This means that all student devices, including smartwatches and earbuds, must be put away during these hours.
Our goal with this policy is to create a learning environment that is free from distractions and fully focused on student engagement. We believe that by minimizing these interruptions, we can help our students stay focused on their academic goals, better engage with their teachers and peers, and ultimately achieve greater success both in high school and beyond.
We understand that you may have concerns about your student being without their phone during the school day. Please rest assured that our campus is equipped with phones throughout the building, which students can access if they need to contact you. Additionally, we take the safety and well-being of our students very seriously, and we will always notify families promptly in the event of an emergency.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing this policy at home and ensuring that your student understands the importance of being fully present during the school day. If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to the district at phonefreeschools@killeenisd.org.
Together, we can create a positive, productive, and distraction-free learning environment for all of our students.
Thank you for your partnership, and let's make this school year the best one yet!
