Esteem Families,
Please know it has been a pleasure to meet our families during our back to school night, and during arrival/dismissal. We are sharing with you the presentation for you to review. Back to School Presentation.pdf We look forward to building more partnership and collaboration. We would like to cordially invite you to the first Coffee with Admin on Tuesday October 8th. We will be holding a bilingual session starting at 1:30pm. We look forward to seeing as many of you in attendance.
It has been a complete honor to be serving our students at Lent. We want you to know that we are committed to building partnerships with all stakeholders, as we center on student success. We have been working hard to establish systems and protocols for students to be safe and secure at school. We have had and continue to build opportunities to have conversations with our families and partners to help support Lent.
We wanted to take this opportunity to share some amazing news with the community. Our school last year showed tremendous improvements in ELA and Math state testing. Data to be shared soon. Please know that we are committed to continuing our work to bring excellence, joy and service here at Lent. We want to appreciate our staff who helped us make this possible with their resilience. We also want to appreciate our families and community partners who continue to support and advocate for what students need. Finally, we are so grateful to our students who have worked hard. ¡Si se puede!
In Unity,
Dr. Amor and Mr. Interian

SCHOOL NEWS
DROP OFF & PICK UP
As you may have realized, we have no crossing guard in front of the school, and ask all students to be dropped in the crosswalk. We have noticed students being dropped on the street and crossing without being monitored. We want to share our current state of how arrival/dismissal is running, as we have drivers pulling over neighbors driveway and blocking the road. We wanted to propose that we have a smooth flow by coming and dropping off one way. Please see the map that provides our proposal that we want to encourage all families to follow.
We also strongly encourage families who are driving their student(s) to consider using a park and walk location. These are sites near the school where students can be dropped off and walk the remainder of the distance to the school site, reducing car traffic in front of the school and allowing you to skip waiting in the drop-off line while students start the day with healthy physical activity, arriving at school more ready to learn. We are fortunate to have two large parks near our school to use for park and walk. Bloomington Park is 0.3 miles from the school which is a 5-10 minute walk. Lents Park is 0.4 miles from the school which is a 10-15 minute walk.

BIRTHDAYS AND HOLIDAYS
Your child’s birthday and other special celebrations are significant moments to every child and they like to celebrate with their classmates. Those moments are very significant to us and we want to celebrate with them.
However, we want to mention that we are also teaching students good healthy eating habits and we want to switch food with high sugar or flour content to more healthy options and increase more experiences rather than food for the class.
Here are some facts and examples about some alternative suggestions:
Celebrations with minimal amounts of healthy food are just as fun and special for kids (instead of cup cakes, popcorn. Instead of candy - Fruit, or non food celebration is good too)
Make it easier to involve all students as we see growing numbers of students with food allergies, diabetes or other health-related issues
Ease the financial burden for some parents who struggle with the cost of purchasing food/drinks for an entire classroom
Reduce waste, making them environmentally friendly
Create less clean-up for janitors
IF YOU want to bring something for your child’s birthday or a holiday, below is a list of inexpensive ways to celebrate these special days. (Make sure to arrange with the teacher)
Basketball, volleyball, football or soccer ball for students to play that special day.(it does not need to be new).
Games-gently used are great!
Your child’s favorite book
Sidewalk chalk
Bubbles
Know that your child will always be recognized at Lent on their special day.
Thank you for your continued support regarding the health and well being of our students.

HEALTH PREVENTION
As our students embark on another exciting year of learning and growth, we want you to know it is a priority to create spaces where your students feel safe, cared for, and connected to their learning environment. Ensuring a healthy and safe environment for our students, staff, and families is a shared responsibility, and we must continue to work together to prevent the spread of communicable diseases within our school communities.
Prevention continues to be the best health approach to minimize risk for illness and contagious disease. Our 2024-25 Family Guide for Preventing Illness and Contagious Disease in Schools includes practical prevention strategies such as keeping your student up to date with recommended vaccinations and boosters, outlines steps to take if your child is sick and/or diagnosed with a communicable disease, and addresses the current measles outbreak in Oregon. You can expect all PPS schools and facilities to continue regular cleaning and disinfecting, promoting vaccine and booster clinics, providing access to masks and COVID-19 tests, and improving air circulation.
Our schools remain vigilant and work with the Multnomah County Health Department to respond to communicable disease outbreaks and notify affected families if necessary. You may continue to monitor illness activity in our region through Oregon Health Authority’s Respiratory Virus Data dashboards.
We thank you for entrusting us with your students, and for your cooperation in ensuring our schools remain healthy, safe, and productive learning environments.
