Our Trash is your Treasure
We're excited to inform you that your children may soon be bringing home some special treasures from our school—discarded library books! These books are now theirs to keep. As our library collection continually updates, we occasionally need to make room for new additions on our shelves. Books are discarded for reasons such as being worn out, having too many copies, or having low circulation.
Your child should not return these books to the school library. Instead, they can enjoy reading them repeatedly! Then they can share them with friends, donate them, find creative ways to reuse them, or recycle them. You'll recognize a discarded book by the crossed-out barcode and spine label, along with a "discard" or "withdrawn" stamp on the first page. If you have any questions, please reach out to our school’s library aide or to our district library coordinator, Pamela Mumm, at pmumm@wbsd-schools.org. Happy reading adventures await!

5th Grade Vision Screening
On the morning of Friday, January 31st, 5th graders will have their vision screening with the District Nurse and the West Bend Lions Club. Special vision screening equipment is used to take a picture of the eyes where measurements are used to note a "pass" or "referral." Students will bring home the results from the screening in their take home folders, and families will be notified if their student receives a referral from the screening team.

Unit Description: Problem Solving
In this unit, students learn how to apply their emotion management, communication, and perspective-taking skills to solve interpersonal problems and demonstrate strategies for effectively dealing with interpersonal conflict.
Lesson: Beginning to STEP
Summary: In this lesson, your child will learn how to begin to solve an interpersonal problem. This includes finding a way to feel calm, saying the problem respectfully, and deciding whether an adult’s help is needed.
Try This at Home: Ask your child what kind of interpersonal problems they can solve on their own, and when they might need an adult’s help.
6th Grade
Considering Multiple Perspectives
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to view situations from multiple perspectives so they can better avoid and resolve conflicts.
Question: Tell your child about a time when your view of a conflict changed because you were able to see it from another person’s perspective. Ask your child if they have changed their view about a conflict lately..
