Did You Know?
Every school participates in the Minnesota Free School Meals Program. All students are offered one breakfast and one lunch meal at no cost each day at school.
Patriot's Pen
Do you enjoy writing? Do you like having others read your writings? Would you like to get paid to write? The Brooker-Edmond VFW Post 724 is sponsoring a Patriot’s Pen essay writing contest for students in grades 6-8. The essay’s theme this year is “My Voice in America’s Democracy”. Your Social Studies teacher will have entry forms available for you and a screencast, which details the specific requirements for these essays. Cash prizes are awarded locally; you could also qualify for district, state, and national prizes if your essay is selected. 6th grade MN Studies Teacher, Ms. Hallenberger (Room 109), can answer questions you may have. The entries will be collected in the front office for pickup by 10/29 at 2:30 pm so we can get them to the VFW Post representatives by the due date on the form. Share your thoughts and writings!
Let's Talk About It: Coping with school anxiety
We're back at it! With the return to school, some students may show an increase in anxiety. What does this mean? What can you do to help? Read the latest blog from the District's Student Support Team for more information.
Mounds View Public Schools Curriculum Advisory Committee
The Mounds View Public Schools Curriculum Advisory Committee is seeking representatives to serve on the committee for the 2024-2025 school year. Committee members work in partnership with the district and community to gain knowledge and provide feedback about curriculum and other instructional issues. Please see the Mounds View Curriculum Advisory website for meeting dates, past topics, and other important information regarding the committee. If you have questions, please contact Heidi Saari at 651.621.6059 or by e-mail at heidi.saari@mvpschools.org
Adding to the Parenting Toolkit
We want to share with you some of the books we are reading and podcasts we are listening to as we build our toolkit to support kids during their amazing middle school growth spurt. Feel free to take a look if you're building your own toolkit. This week, we are listening to: Connected and Courageous by Dr. Erin Walsh. Join parent, author, and speaker Erin Walsh as she explores the complicated science and tender art of raising and teaching kids in the digital age. She covers some great topics that help adults stay connected with kids as their digital worlds expand.
Safe Routes to School survey
The City of New Brighton is seeking input from District families as they work to create a Safe Routes to School plan. The plan will recommend ways to make walking and biking to school easier, safer and more comfortable for students and families at [insert your school name].
Please share your thoughts in this quick survey before October 15.
In addition to the survey, you can also use this interactive map to comment on opportunities and barriers to safely and comfortably walking and biking to school. You can also share your existing walking and biking routes.
High school events: Know before you go
Irondale High School and Mounds View High School welcome middle school families and students to their after-school and evening events. Before you go to a football game this fall, here are some things to keep in mind to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
Students should always carry a student ID or other identification when attending high school games.
Only students attending the home school and the opposing team school will be allowed to attend athletic events.
Middle School Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Parent/Guardians are asked to supervise elementary and middle school aged students they accompany at all times.
Bags are prohibited past the entrance gate to our stadiums. This includes backpacks, purses, tote bags, cross-body bags, etc.
Students are prohibited from entering with a ball of any kind (this is an ongoing safety concern as balls have been thrown in close vicinity of guests who are watching the game).
There is no re-entry if a spectator leaves.
At any given time, students and guests may be asked to vacate the premises without a refund.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in our efforts to provide a safe and joyful experience for our students and guests.
Go Knights! Go Mustangs!
