Let's CU Flourish
Newsletter to Support Well-being_11.30.23
Dear community,
It’s official - today is the last day of November! We'll be wrapping up the Fall 2023 semester in about 2 weeks, and entering the new year before we know it.
We invite you to take a moment to reflect. What memories captivate you as you look back on the past semester, or on the past year? You might feel a sense of accomplishment, gratitude, or joy for how far you’ve come, what you're now on the other side of, who you're becoming, and who you’ve gained along your journey. You might also feel disappointed in certain outcomes, whether personal, academic, or professional. As you hold the complexities of these memories, you might also be feeling some pressure ahead of the new year. For our students, the pressure can be to get through final exams, final papers, final projects, and final presentations, before finally exhaling. We want to encourage you in this moment: you're still here. Pause and take a breath, as you allow yourself to come back into the present moment. Listen to your body. Remember you can rest, even in short spurts. Rest is restorative and can take many forms: physical, mental, emotional, sensory, creative, social, and/or spiritual.
Keep doing your best, one day at a time, until you reach the finish line! And remember, you are not alone.

Cornell University is located on the traditional homelands of the Gayogo_hó:no' (the Cayuga Nation). The Gayogo_hó:no' are members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign nations with a historic and contemporary presence on this land. The confederacy precedes the establishment of Cornell University, New York state and the United States of America. We acknowledge the painful history of Gayogo_hó:no' dispossession, and honor the ongoing connection of Gayogo_hó:no' people, past and present, to these lands and waters.

Disappointment - David Whyte
"Disappointment is a friend to transformation, a call to both accuracy and generosity in the assessment of our self and others, a test of sincerity and a catalyst of resilience. Disappointment is just the initial meeting with the frontier of an evolving life, an invitation to reality, which we expected to be one particular way and turns out to be another, often something more difficult, more overwhelming and strangely, in the end, more rewarding."
Meditations for Inner and Global Peace
Join world-renowned author and meditation teacher, David Gandelman, for a series of 30-minute talks, reflections, and guided meditations for Cornellians. Without judging or diminishing painful realities and associated feelings, we can practice centering ourselves while we invite, and give energy to peace. Each week will have a unique focus that will be shared in advance.
With a love for Cornell and local roots, David will come to Cornell to conclude the series with a special hybrid event on December 15. All Cornellians are invited to attend any or all of the sessions and no previous experience with meditation is necessary. Be in community together, as we care for ourselves and the world we share.
