Golden Hills Mission
Letter from the Principal
Dear Golden Hills Families,
We are almost to the end of the first trimester for the 2022-2022 school year. Parent Conference Week is just around the corner: November 14-18th School ends at 1:15 during Parent Conference Week. Teachers will be setting up schedules for families to meet to go over your students' progress.
We had so much fun celebrating Red Ribbon Week with the students. The dress up days were so much fun and thank you for the participation! Congratulations to Mrs. Chapman & Mrs. Corkin for winning the Door Decorating contest! We also loved all the families attending the Halloween Parade!
Our Golden Hills staff is working hard each month to develop interventions based on each student's individual needs. Our EAGLE time is based around a math intervention, this could be reteaching a target standard or providing extensions for students who are ready to be challenged! Our SOAR time is based around a Language Arts intervention, this could be reteaching a target standard or providing extensions for students who are ready to be challenged!
On November 17th we will have an Art Showcase & Family Picnic Day . The Art Showcase will begin at 11:00 AM for fourth grade and 11:30AM for fifth grade. Art will be displayed in the breezeway and in classrooms for families to see. Thank you to Tazuo Yamaguchi and Elizabeth Lee, our art consultants who have been coming and teaching art to our students once a week! Thank you to Reta Rickmers, she is our after school art teacher!
Families are welcome to join us at lunch, please bring a blanket or chairs to spread out and sit on the grass. If it rains we will open up classrooms & the cafeteria. Fourth Grade lunch is 11:40, fifth grade is 12:15. The Golden Hills Cafe will be serving turkey lunch to students only on this date. All visitors must bring their own lunch.
The Parent Teacher Group will be raffling off pies and pie gift certificates at the Art Showcase/ Family Picnic. Please support the PTG by purchasing raffle tickets. The PTG funds fun events for our staff & students. Raffle Tickets will be $1.00 each.
Please be sure to contact me if you have any questions or concerns,
Thank you,

Counselor’s Message
Leadership club meets twice a month after school. Leadership plans school wide events and helps with school fundraisers and other fun school events. Students in leadership run our weekly snack shack at snack recess. Students can buy snacks with their TEAM tickets. Leadership students also ran our Boo Gram fundraiser last week. That was lots of fun! We appreciate our students in leadership!
In September every classroom received lessons on the Zones of Regulation. We use the Zones of Regulation to teach self-awareness and regulation. Students learn how to recognize when they are in different zones as well as how to use strategies to change or stay in the zone they are in. In addition to self-regulation, students learn how to define their feelings, skills in reading how other people are feeling, perspective taking, identifying triggers, and problem solving.
How can you use this at home:
Use the language and talk about the concepts. For example: “ This is frustrating me and making me go into the Yellow Zone. I’m going to take some deep breaths to calm down and get me back to the green.”
Share how your child’s behavior affects the zone you are in and how you feel.
Have your child identify how they are feeling and what zone they are in.
Help your child brainstorm ways they can get back to the green.
Identify your child's triggers
It is important to note that everyone experiences all of the zones. There is no such thing as a “bad” or “naughty” zone. Feelings are normal. We all have them. While they are normal we all need strategies to self-regulate and get ourselves feeling better so that we can be productive and get along with others.
All of our teachers teach the 7 Mindsets curriculum. 7 Mindsets is a social emotional learning curriculum used district wide. So far this year, they have covered Everything is Possible, Passion First and We are Connected. Students explore their interests and passions. They set goals and told us about their big dreams. Students were encouraged to push through challenges in the pursuit of their dreams. Students are learning the importance of maximizing their relationships and embracing everyone they meet.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I’m on campus Monday through Thursday and can be reached by phone at (530)532-6000 ext. 2607 or by email at rwalker@palermok8.org or via text at (530)433-9603.
