The Importance of PROCESS Art
In our programs, we support process-based art as much as possible. Because of this, your child may sometimes come home with remnants of glitter, glue or paint on their hands and arms! Currently your child is at a critical stage of development, and art plays a significant role in fostering their creativity, imagination, and overall growth. William B. Crow, professor of practice in the Department of Art, Architecture and Design, notes that "when engaging in process art, in many ways we're extending the scope of our mind. We're really making the invisible visible. We're trying to articulate things that didn't exist in the world before.” We want all of our students to enjoy the journey of creating and feel confident in their ability to express themselves through art, and process-based art experiences have more advantages to allow for this over craft projects. By allowing students to make their own creative choices, they are also advancing developmental skills such as social-emotional expression, motor skills, spatial reasoning, and much more!!
ITEMS THAT CAN CULTIVATE CREATIVITY AND ARTISTIC EXPRESSION FOR PROCESS ART:
Construction paper, colored pencils, markers, crayons, paint, paintbrushes, watercolor paint palette, scissors, tape, glue, stickers, yarn, large sheets of paper, cardboard, egg cartons, pompoms, google eyes, wash tape, paper scraps, hole punchers, staplers, paper plates, toilet paper tubes, tissue boxes, tissue paper, stamps and stamp pads, glitter, pipe cleaners, beads, buttons, chalk, and so much more!
PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT!!!
Please join us as we invite the parents of all Preschool programs throughout LPCSC to attend a Parent Education Night where we will explore the developmental milestones for children ages 3-5 in the areas of cognitive, social/emotional, fine and gross motor and language. The discussion will include the skills that are developing at these ages and activities that parents can do to support growth in the home setting. This one hour presentation will not only provide you with valuable information, but there will be additional resources available to broaden learning and play experiences in the home setting. Childcare will be offered!! Everyone in attendance will be entered into a drawing to win a developmentally appropriate activity/toy!
