Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Students are engaging in a variety of learning experiences, from hands-on activities to creative self-expression. Whether it's exploring the outdoors, conducting research, or creating art, each opportunity is designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
We have an exciting week ahead filled with Halloween celebrations, Pajama Day, and pancakes! On October 31, we’ll kick off the day with Halloween-themed learning activities and a visit to the haunted house. In the afternoon, our annual Halloween Parade will begin at 1:00 p.m., and parents are welcome to join us—feel free to dress up in your favorite costume! On Friday, we have a full schedule, including picture retake day, Pajama Day, a pancake breakfast, and the Jr. High Dance.
This week, we sent home Parent/Teacher Interview forms (attached below). Please be sure to sign up for a time to meet with your child's teacher to discuss their progress and any questions you may have.
I have noticed some concerns around students not taking care of our school environment, including leaving messes in the washrooms and around the school. We ask that you please remind your child about the importance of cleaning up after themselves and respecting our school and our hardworking custodian.
We’re excited to announce that this week’s Hot Lunch was free burgers for everyone, generously sponsored by Giff Truck Services Ltd. We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you Sheila Easson for her kind donation of apples to our breakfast program!
In other news, Grade 6 and 9 immunizations were postponed on Thursday due to staffing issues with AHS. They will inform us once a new date has been set.
Lastly, a friendly reminder that there is no school for students on Friday, October 25 and Calahoo Meat orders are due on Monday!
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a fun and busy week ahead!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Bailey Benson

Learning in Action
Witches and Brooms Relay Race
The K/1 class had a spooktacular time in gym class playing Halloween-themed games. One of their favorites was the "Witches and Brooms Relay Race," where students raced across the gym on their pretend broomsticks, jumping over various obstacles. The game combined physical activity with imaginative play, making for a fun and festive way to celebrate the Halloween spirit!
Four Spheres Research Project
World Take Me Outside Day
To celebrate World Take Me Outside Day, the K/1 class enjoyed a special outdoor learning experience in the butterfly garden. Equipped with paint sample cards, the students explored the garden, searching for natural elements that matched the colors on their cards. They eagerly compared shades of green to leaves, pinks to flowers, and browns to tree bark, discovering the many hues present in their environment. This hands-on activity helped the children connect with nature while enhancing their observation skills and appreciation for the world around them.
Patterns with Changing Attributes
The Grade 2/3 students demonstrated their understanding of patterns by creating a unique pattern with two changing attributes. They carefully selected colours and shapes as their variables, alternating both to create a visually interesting sequence. As they built their patterns, they focused on keeping the changes consistent, ensuring that both the colour and shape altered in a predictable manner. This activity helped them strengthen their grasp of pattern recognition and logic, showcasing their creativity and problem-solving skills.
Mixed Media Self Portraits
The Grade 8/9 class is exploring their creativity in art by working on mixed media self-portraits. Using a combination of materials like paint, transparency, and drawing, each student is creating a unique representation of themselves that captures their individuality. This project allows them to express their personal identity through art, resulting in a vibrant and diverse collection of self-portraits that reflect their creativity and self-expression.

If you or someone you know is interested in reffing basketball, please tell them to reach out to the school. We need to find refs for the upcoming basketball season in order for us to be able to host home games so please encourage anyone you know to attend the clinic in Edson.
