Definition of Formative Assessment
Formative assessment is a planned process in which assessment-elicited evidence of students’ status is used by teachers to adjust their ongoing instructional procedures or by students to adjust their current learning tactics.
Why use Formative Assessment?
· Contributes to student engagement
· Creates a learning environment through instructional design that allows students to ask questions
· Develops the teacher’s craft
Three Day Workshop Series
A collaborative team of Learning Services, School Quality and Special Education consultants have developed a three day informational and instructional workshop series on using Formative Assessment in the classroom.
This professional learning opportunity is provided by Carol Anthony, Lauren Childs, Les Howard, Susan Koceski, Jay Marks, and Marie Smerigan
Who Should Attend?
We recommend schools send a team consisting of three educators: two teachers and a building level administrator. In addition we encourage sending any of the following educators: special education director, central administrator, and/or curriculum specialist.
Goals
· To strengthen, support and integrate formative assessment practices in the classroom in order to improve teaching and learning.
· Increase the shared leadership for school-wide formative assessment practices.
· Provide concrete instructional practices to take with you back to your classroom.
