Stay Safe on the Internet!
Year 5 Class Worship
On Tuesday, it was national 'Safer Internet Day' and Year 5 planned and delivered a fabulous worship on the theme 'Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online'. They began worship by asking the other children in school what was meant by sharing personal information and how important it is to keep our own personal information safe. They then went on to explain what a SCAM is; children went 'fishing' for personal information in the audience to demonstrate 'phishing' online where a scammer ‘hooks’ the user by pretending to be a person/ company. The children went on to share a story about a girl called Samira who thought she was being scammed so she went to her dad for help. The children finished with a whole school quiz to check everyone had understood the important messages from the worship. Thank you to those parents who were able to join us, I am sure you would agree the class did a brilliant job.
This week all the children across school have been learning about online safety in their classes.
Year 4 Mental Health Afternoon
Year 4 were lucky to have a visit from the COMIC children's mental health team. We learnt all about the importance of mental health and how COMIC work to support children to recognise and care for their different emotions. We also learnt about how COMIC work with children to create intervention kits for children who are facing mental health challenges and children themselves can become mental health researchers. COMIC's holding an event for children to be involved in mental health research over half term - see information below.
Mental Health Week
As part of our work with Place 2 Be which we launched with the children during last week’s Mental Health Week, we would like to know your views about children’s mental health and how you feel about support available for your child’s mental health. Please take part in our survey by following the link below. Your responses will help to shape our plans for how we tackle this important issue in school.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to this week's stars:
Nursery - Oliver C for trying really hard with all activities, especially gymnastics.
Reception - Albert for being a 'Go for it Gorilla' and having confidence to perform 'Hot Cross Buns' in front of the whole class.
Year 1 - Adella for her fabulous character description of the alien from the story 'The Way Back Home'. She remembered to use capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and powerful adjectives.
Year 2 - Sophie H for her fantastic independent writing in English. She has been working so hard to use expanded noun phrases and contractions throughout her work. She's got such a wonderful imagination and it's lovely to see that in her writing.
Year 3 - Maxwell for super effort in maths this week, challenging himself in lessons and explaining his reasoning clearly.
Year 4 - Grace E for challenging herself with her maths learning and creating a wonderful light box for our DT project.
Year 5 - Mikael for his fantastic concentration and dedication to his learning, particularly in maths.
Year 6 - Evie for her positive attitude and determination in English. She strives for excellence and this shows in her work.
World Book Day
World Book Day is coming up on Thursday 6th March and we will be celebrating the joy of reading throughout school that day. The children have requested to once again dress up as their favourite book characters. However, we are urging parents not to go to great lengths or expense for this, as there are many characters that the children love whose costumes can be created from clothes the children may already have or that can be put together simply. If you need any ideas or inspiration for costumes, please do speak to staff in school. Pupils will come home today with a £1 Book Token they can use over half term to buy one of the special World Book Day £1 books, or for money off a higher priced book.
Oscar's in the Holidays
We are unable to run a holiday club over Easter. However, there is good news for the summer holidays! Enough of our wonderful staff, all of whom are only contracted to work in term time, have offered to work in the first and last week of the summer break. We are just waiting for confirmation from the building management company that we can go ahead before we open up booking, but the dates should be Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 24th July and Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th August.
