"Paw Prints"
Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update
Dear Farley Families,
In this week's Paw Prints, we're taking a moment to shine a spotlight on the incredible individuals who play a vital role in keeping our school community healthy and safe - our remarkable school nurses-Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Wright! These dedicated healthcare professionals go above and beyond every day, providing comfort, care, and expertise to our students, families, and staff. Whether it's administering first aid, offering a listening ear, or providing invaluable health education, our school nurses embody compassion and dedication in everything they do. Their unwavering commitment ensures that our children receive the best possible care, allowing them to thrive academically and personally. We are truly grateful for the amazing work our school nurses do and the positive impact they have on our school community. Let's join together in expressing our heartfelt appreciation to our healthcare heroes!
As we wrap up an extraordinary Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible Home and School Association for orchestrating an unforgettable celebration filled with gratitude and fun! 🏕️🍎 This week's theme, Camping, brought a sense of adventure and camaraderie as our teachers were showered with appreciation and goodies. From Lalos' food truck lunches, to surprise snacks, to cozy campfire decorations, every detail was carefully crafted to honor our dedicated educators. The generosity and thoughtfulness of our Home and School Association truly made this week special, reminding us all of the invaluable role our staff plays in shaping young minds and hearts. Thank you for going above and beyond to make Teacher Appreciation Week memorable and meaningful! Below is a picture of the postcard Home and School made to let us know of all the week's treats.
Farley's next step in creating our new vision and mission is to assemble a steering committee to lead the development. This important work will help to set a course for our school in the coming years and we're hoping you will join us. I sent out an email earlier this week and got such a great response. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered. At this time, we already have enough caregivers for the committee!
Next week is our last week of MCAS! Hooray! If you have a fourth grader, please make it a priority for them to attend school and to get to school on time. If you have an incoming kindergartener, I hope to see you at the Class of 2037 K Open House on May 16th at 6:00 at Quinn Middle School. Lastly, I will be visiting my mother in RI this weekend in honor of Mother's Day. I hope that ANYONE and EVERYONE who takes on a motherly role in the lives our little ones gets some extra love this Sunday.

Welcome Mrs. Eckelman to DL Grade 2!
Farley would like to welcome Mrs. Sandra Eckelman as the newest member of our Dual Language Grade 2 team. Mrs. Eckelman lives in Berlin with her husband, three teenage children, and three Cocker Spaniels. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Media Arts & Design and Elementary Education from Northeastern University, and a Master's in Education, Teaching English as a Second Language from Framingham State University. Mrs. Eckelman was an elementary school librarian at Berlin Memorial School for the past five years. When not in the classroom, she love to run, travel and play pickleball. She is so excited to be a new Farley Fox!
MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION SPOTLIGHT
JOIN US FOR OUR MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION!
A message from Mrs. Strauss our music teacher:
Our annual Memorial Day assembly will be on Friday, May 24th at 9:30AM on the field (rain date: Tuesday, May 28th). Here is the flyer with more information. This two-page blue flyer was sent home last week and includes a page that you can fill out if you have a family member who has served or currently is serving our country or community. This person will be announced, honored and invited to sit up front at the celebration.
In preparation for this assembly, students have been working in class on music that they will be presenting at the performance. If they would like to continue to practice at home, here is the slideshow that we're using in class. Each grade-level has one song and a part in the Armed Forces medley. Practicing both would be very helpful for repetition and memorization. You'll notice that the flyer is also linked in the slideshow as well.
If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Strauss directly @ clstrauss@hudson.k12.ma.us. We hope to see you there!
HAITIAN DANCING PERFORMANCE SPOTLIGHT
THANK YOU JEAN APPOLON EXPRESSIONS!
Students (and staff) had a blast this morning dancing around the gym together! Thank you to Jean Appolon Expressions for teaching us Haitian dancing and sharing your stories with us. Real-life drummers created the powerful beats used to keep our dance moves in sync. Thank you to Home and School and the Hudson Cultural Coalition for sponsoring this event.

All children living in Hudson, who will be five years old on or before August 31, 2024, are eligible to enter the Hudson Public Schools in the fall of 2024. We will continue to use a 50-50 model, in which students will have 50% of their instructional time in English and 50% in the partner language, Portuguese. The program promotes bilingualism, biliteracy, cross-cultural competency, and high levels of academic achievement. THE FARLEY FAMILY DIRECTORY HAS BEEN UPDATED!
Home and School has finished doing their mid-year update to our Farley Family School Directory. The most recent directory is linked below. Please note that this directory is published for the private use of Farley Elementary School Families only. This directory is for the personal use of the authorized reader and cannot be shared (including on social media), duplicated, or used for commercial purpose. Thank you to caregiver Sarah Tracy for creating the directory!
PAW PRINT REWARD STICKERS!
Students get Paw Print Stickers for going above and beyond. When a staff member "catches" them doing something spectacular, they get two stickers-one to wear and one to put on their homeroom Fox poster. When their classroom Fox poster fills up with stickers, they get to have a classroom celebration. If you see a paw print on your child's clothing or backpack, please ask them why they got it.
"ALL THINGS TECHNOLOGY"
At the beginning of the year, Ellen Schuck, the Head of Technology for the district, sent out one of her Technology Newsletters. This publication has essential information about all things related to HPS technology, including how caregivers can access the "ASPEN Parent Portal". Below is the link to her newsletter.
HUDSON IS HIRING!
Farley has filled all of their paraprofessional positions but is still in need of substitutes. We are looking for both day-to-day subs and permanent building subs. Day-to-Day subbing offers employees a flexible schedule. Our Permanent Building Substitute works every day but in a variety of classrooms. The permanent building substitute job is a salaried, benefit eligible position. If you are interested or would like more information, please feel free to email Mrs. Scanlon @ rscanlon@hudson.k12.ma.us or Mrs. Duke @ amduke@hudson.k12.ma.us directly to set up an interview. DON'T FORGET TO #EXPLAINYOURBRAIN
Farley's Instructional Focus is getting all students to "explain their brains" across all content areas. Whenever possible, don't forget to ask your child to explain their thinking and reasoning.
