Miller Elementary Weekly Update
Week of December 8th, 2024!
Important Lunch Update - Pizza will still be served for lunch on Friday 12/6!
Hello Miller Families,
Happy Snow Day! I hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying a little time outside building a snowman or playing in the snow! As a reminder, kindergarten will go outside and play in the snow if the "feels like" temperature is above 20 degrees. If the "feels like" temperature is between 15-20, we will try to go outside for one of our two recesses to get some fresh air. We will stay in for both recesses if the "feels like" temperature is below 15 degrees. Please make sure you start sending your child with hats, gloves, boots, snow pants and a warm jacket each day! They will have so much fun playing in the snow with their friends. We have a small hill on our playground and will start to pull out the sleds in the days ahead! This is also a reminder that clothes get wet in the snow. Please check their bookbag for an extra winter outfit and socks.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday with family or friends! At school we enjoyed our first Stuffy Friendgiving and had a wonderful time celebrating at school. We also completed a building wide project called Balloons Over Broadway; The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade. You can check out a quick video below of our school just before break!
We will be continuing with the Holiday Shop over the next few days since our snow day has impacted our schedule. Please make sure if you want your child to participate, you send in the envelope indicating they will be shopping, who they can shop for along with cash or use a credit card via the online QR code. We are making adjustments to the schedule to wrap things up on Friday and Monday!
- Friday 12/6 - Gallucci, Haughey, Jaworski, Sabulsky, Smerkar & Forster
- Monday 12/9 - Kidwell, Verhotz, Ms. Lauren AM, Ms. Amanda PM, & Ms. Taylor PM
Finally, if your family is participating in our Giving Tree Project, please make sure all items to be donated are sent to school by next Thursday, December 12th!
Stay Warm and Happy Holidays!

Important Transportation Link Information
We have recently discovered our QR code for our transportation link is NOT WORKING. We are working to fix this as quickly as possible. Our Transportation/Attendance Google Form IS WORKING so you can continue to use the link and button below. We just wanted to inform families that if you are using the QR code, we are working to fix it at this time. Thank you!
Planned Absences & HB 410
It's that time of year where we begin to have students who meet the benchmarks set forth in HB 410 for absences. Please be aware that if your child meets one of those, a letter must be sent from the school alerting you. Please also be reminded that it doesn't matter whether the absences are excused or unexcused. We have to track the hours missed regardless and communicate to you when benchmarks have been met.
This is also the time of year that planned absences often get scheduled. We have attached our planned absence form and policy. Please make sure you read through this important message and understand that planned absences and absences due to illness all count for missed hours. If you have any further questions, please let me know!
Tuition Reminder - Due January 15, 2025
As a reminder, 2nd-semester tuition payments for preschool and kindergarten will be due on January 15th, 2025. We will send letters in the mail with your remaining balance and payment options before winter break. If you do not want to change your payment method, we will automatically charge the credit card we have on file with the remaining balance after January 15th. Or, you can send in a check to cover the remaining balance prior to January 15th. If you have any questions after you get the letter, please contact Erin Toler at 330-562-6199.

Outdoor Recess in the Winter
Can you believe the temperatures are getting cooler and snowflakes will be coming soon! Many families begin to have questions about our outdoor recess policy when it gets cold and the snow starts to fly. Our full-day students will continue to go outside if the feels like temperature is between 15 and 20 degrees or higher. We watch the weather closely as it is important for our children to get outside, run around, and enjoy some fresh air. The playground is a great place to practice social skills such as turn taking, problem solving as well as how to communicate with their friends. Plus, when the snow comes, it provides some fun experiences to build snowmen or use our sleds down our playground hills!
We recommend a warm coat, hats, gloves, snow pants, and boots (when necessary). We work with all children to help them learn how to dress themselves independently and in the correct order. (Snow pants, boots, jacket zipped, hat, and gloves are last). Please make sure all your child's items are labeled with their name. It is important that you check their book bag for an extra set of clothes and socks that match the new season. Children would rather wear their change of clothes if an accident occurs. Please have your child practice putting on their snow gear at home too!
Counseling Updates
Greetings MIller!
Recently, your Kindergarten student(s) had the opportunity to participate in lessons about kindness and growth mindset with me. The students can provide examples of kindness, practice kindness and understand that kindness is easy to use! They know that, in Kindergarten terms, growth mindset means never giving up and believing in themselves. Please enjoy this Google slide to listen to some of the read-alouds and songs we used to celebrate kindness! Ask your student to show you the growth mindset songs linked below from Sesame Street that were a hit during our lesson!

Nursing Updates
Here are some important illness updates during the cold and flu season!
- It is important to check your child each day for symptoms of illness as you know them best. If they become I'll during the day, or are injured, we will reach out to you and let you know if their symptoms are worsening. We call home for injuries, fevers, and continued sickness. We do not call home for every trip to the nurse for a band-aid, ice pack or upset tummy. We certainly will call if symptoms worsen. We sometimes use our School Nurse Cell Phone
- Students sent home with a fever, vomiting or diarrhea may not return to school until they are free of these symptoms or without medication for at least 24 hours. This means if your child was sent home on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. with a fever, he/she may not return to school until 24 hours later. If your child does return the next day, our school will be calling for you to come pick him/her up. Please help to support our efforts in this area.
- We are required to report to families if there is a confirmed communicable disease in your child's class. This could include strep, pink eye, COVID, RSV, hand-foot and mouth or other illnesses.
Finally, please make sure your child has extra clothes in his/her backpack. Accidents and spills happen all the time and it's safe to always have their own clothes in their book bag instead of wearing our spare clothes.
