7th Grade Anti-Vaping Campaign
7th grade students participated in a 4-week anti-vaping campaign. Students learned the facts and fiction behind teens and vaping. Over the 4 weeks students participated in small group work and collaborated on anti-vaping posters that will be hung in our hallways. Thank you to Mrs. Williams for her time from the Prevention Specialist Guidance and Care Center, Pinfish and McDonald's in Tavernier for donating gift cards for the winning posters.
Mock Trial
Mrs. Meyer’s speech & debate class conducted their first mock trial of the year. A special thank you to Mrs. Koche’s class for sering as our jury!
Media Center/Readers are Leaders
READERS ARE LEADERS
Reminding you that we have the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum to Plantation Key School. I am especially excited because the museum is featuring The Bermuda Triangle, a mystery we all love! The Mel Fisher Maritime Museum’s mission is to research, interpret, and exhibit the maritime history of Florida and the Caribbean in ways that increase knowledge, enrich the spirit, and stimulate inquiry. They are located in Key West and do a different museum every year. Students will have a chance to visit the museum in Media Center and complete activities and view a variety of companion videos. Contact Dr. Cash if you would like to come visit the museum.
Our first challenge for grades K-5 launched last week. We are going to “partner” with Spookley, the Square Pumpkin who speaks out against bullying. Mrs. Hillman will also be working with the students, and we are celebrating Unity Day by wearing orange on October 16th. People wear orange on Unity Day to show support for bullying prevention and to send a message that all youth should be safe from bullying. This also reflects the C.A.R.E. focus in Media Center this year.
C = Caring
A = Adaptable
R = Respectful
E = Empathetic
Your teachers will let you know the challenge, but briefly students will read book(s) related to C.A.R.E. and check in with Dr. Cash for special Brag Tags.
Monroe County School District launched A Culture of Literacy, which I mentioned in the Newsletter, October is Batty about Books. Read with your children every day. Reading with your child is beneficial in many ways, but did you know that you can boost your child’s vocabulary development by reading and discussing books with them? Bring your own Culture of Literacy to your home by reading with your child(re) every day!
