Car Rider News
Things are getting better and better in our car rider line, especially in light of the fact that we have more car riders this year than ever! Thank you so, so much for your attention to safety, as well as for following our procedures. There are two things that I would like to reiterate. First, please remember that everyone is expected to alternate yielding in the AM and PM. I know that everyone is in a hurry to get somewhere, but safety is our number one priority. Second, please be reminded that the far left lane is still a fire lane. This means that in the case of an emergency, such as an ambulance or fire truck needing to get through to answer a call, or a parent who needs to get to a sick or injured child, you may be asked to move. Thank you for your understanding.
MAP Testing
This year, our district will implement common assessment dates. MAP reading for all students will be Tuesday, August 20th and MAP math for all students will be Thursday, August 22nd. Please make sure your child is well rested and encourage them to eat breakfast so that they can do their best.
In addition, we will have the MAP Language assessment Tuesday, August 27th.
SAVE THE DATE
Our fourth annual Grandparents Day Parade will be held on Wednesday, September 11 at 8:30 AM. If it rains, our rain date is Wednesday, September 18 at the same time. More information will be sent home soon!
Car Rider and Walker Tags
If you do not have this year's car rider tags, now is the time to get them. The link is https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mtduKcDRSYThAjFXkgDwEbhOyqEIdjM1ZmnIOWXBzJ4/edit#settings. Anyone with the wrong tag will be sent to the front office to be identified. This is a protocol that we utilize to help maintain safety.
Walkers
Families, in order for your child to qualify as being a walker, they must walk off of our school campus and enter your car. Parking in our parking lots, loading docks, curbs, etc. does not count. I know that our car rider line lasts for approximately 30 minutes in the afternoon, but the above mentioned locations are not designated for walkers. In advance, thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Summer Reading Passports
Did you remember to complete your "Kershaw Community Passport" for logging summer reading minutes and completing other fun activities around our Kershaw County community this summer? If you did, bring your passport by the LES Library and Mrs. Brewer will make sure you are invited to our summer reading celebration! If you have lost your passport or forgot to complete one, don't worry, it's still officially summer! Just visit www.kcsdschools.net/read for a paper log you can complete and return. For every 30 minutes read, students could earn 1 point. If you earned 10 points, you can attend the LES Summer Reading celebration! You have until August 30th to turn in your passport or log to Mrs. Brewer.

SC Certificate of Immunization
Greetings from Nurse Deal!
Let’s talk…..VALID SC CERTIFICATE OF IMMUNIZATION
A valid South Carolina Certificate of Immunization is required for all children enrolled in school. SC state law allows for medical and religious exemptions, or a 30 day special exemption may be issued by the school nurse. This one time certificate allows additional time for students to obtain the required vaccines for school.
If your child is new to LES, and attends Pre-K or kindergarten, you should have already submitted a valid certificate during the school registration process. In addition, if you moved from out of state to South Carolina, please make sure you have provided us with your student’s out of state immunization record, as I must create a new SC Certificate of Immunization for their school permanent record. If you have any questions regarding your child’s immunization record, please contact me. annah.deal@kcsdschools.net 803-438-8000
Thank you for your cooperation! Nurse Deal
