STUDENT(S) OF THE MONTH
In JANUARY the school focused on RESPECT and our Student(s) of the Month were chosen for demonstrating this trait during the month!
A WORD FROM PRINCIPAL WILSON
Dear Taylor Families,
Happy February! As we settle into the heart of winter, there are many exciting things happening at school. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, it's a perfect time to reflect on the kindness, cooperation, and community spirit that makes our school such a special place for both students and families. This month, we have some exciting events, important reminders, and updates to share with you.
International Baccalaureate (IB) - PYP Update:
In January we submitted our IB application to the D51 Robust & Aligned Options Committee and last week we were APPROVED! We will keep everyone updated as we take the next steps in the coming months. If you missed the basic overview of IB last month you can still find it HERE.
Donuts With Your Darlings:
PTO sent home a form in your student's folder this past Thursday with information on our Donuts With Your Darlings event. There is no need to RSVP for this event, we simply hope you join us on February 14th, Valentine's Day, in our cafeteria for a donut at your designated time.

Elementary School Transitions:
The district has modified the boundaries for elementary schools in order to place students from closing schools into schools nearby. Taylor will be receiving somewhere between 70 and 85 students from Clifton Elementary starting in the 2025/2026 school year. We will be supporting the current and incoming Taylor Tornadoes with open communication, teamwork, leading with empathy and thoughtfulness and putting students first.
Monthly Theme:
For the month of February, our theme will be Kindness. Teachers will be discussing how to show kindness to others in and outside of the school throughout the month. Let's all commit to doing one kind thing for someone else this month. February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day!
Thank you for the continued support and involvement in our school community! As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
Respectfully,
Shawn Wilson
Taylor Principal

COUNSELOR'S CORNER WITH MS. SERENITY
We made it through the great cold snap of January 2025 and all the inside recess that came with it! I sure am glad it’s starting to warm up a little! Counseling groups that are up and running this month include two new Calm Ninjas groups, one for kindergarten and first graders and one for second and third graders. These groups are designed to help develop self-regulation and executive functioning skills. If you think your child could benefit, talk to their teacher or contact Ms. Serenity.
Our social emotional skill lessons for February include kindergarten and first grade lessons on people having different feelings about the same thing and how to handle when you hurt someone by accident. Our second graders will learn about ways to show compassion and how to predict feelings in themselves and others. Third graders will work on their friendship skills and fourth graders will work on understanding complex and conflicting feelings. In our fifth grade lessons, we will do our first two suicide prevention lessons which focus on the how to talk to trusted adults to get help for yourself or a friend. If you have any questions about the school counseling program at Taylor Elementary, feel free to contact Ms. Serenity:
