YOU are APPRECIATED!

In the previous newsletter (yes, that seems like months ago), I asked each of you to choose to care about each other and go out of your way to make sure everyone feels appreciated, noticed, and loved. Your actions astounded me - checking in on each other before leaving for break, sending positive notes, visiting classrooms, complimenting creative project ideas, "shouting out" your colleagues, and sending notes home to students.


Over break, I came across the quote above from Mary Kay Ash and it made me think of our entire SHS staff. I am so grateful to work in a building of people who show up every day not only for the students we serve, but for each other as well. You amaze me with your patience and kindness towards each other. We are truly a family and every member is an integral part of what makes Southport High School a special place to work.


So I'll keep this week's message short.... THANK YOU! YOU are APPRECIATED!


Let's enjoy being with each other again this week and continue to make sure all of our SHS family members know they are appreciated!

  • Our EL and Sheltered teachers for hosting visitors from IPS and Purdue Polytechnic HS so we can share the work we are doing to support our EL students.
  • Jeff Maupin for hosting the fall band concert in the cafeteria.
  • Israel Badibanga, Millie Delgado, Lisa Entwistle, Kelly Harmon, Rebecca Mawi, Sui Tial, Jacob Wormann, and Paige Wyatt for supporting our students during fall intersession.

The World Language department celebrates after a successful induction ceremony. The department came together as a team to organize a wonderful program to recognize the students and their families.

Rachel Frantz

Ms. Frantz had visitors from IPS observing her sheltered ICP class while her students were working together in the science lab. She made sure everyone (even the visitors) were safe wearing their safety goggles during the demonstration.

Student Leadership Council

The student leadership coucil met before break to give positive feedback and suggestions for improvement regarding Homecoming activities and the school year thus far. We are empowering students to have a voice!

Patty Blake

Ms. Blake was recognized for her 52 years of service in Perry Township schools (currently in her 53rd). Dr. Spray gave Ms. Blake a cutting board that was made and engraved by the students from JWR as a gift.

Diana Greene

Mrs. Greene's Principles of Human and Social Services classes have been working on projects that Mrs. Greene has used to decorate the display case in the FACS hallway. Stop by to see some amazing work done by the students in her classes.

Patricia Steinberger

Ms. Steinberger was recognized for her 50 years of service in Perry Township Schools. She was also gifted with an engraved cutting board, but Dr. Spray threatened to take it back after Miss Patricia said she was NOT returning after this school year.

Brianne Osburn, Jessi Walpole & the Senior Class Officers

Thank you to Mrs. Osburn, Mrs. Walpole and the Senior class officers for organizing the first senior sunrise breakfast. The coordinated with PTEF to have donuts from Long's bakery along with milk and juice from our cafeteria. The students had games, music, and wrote letters to each other. It was a great send off to fall break.

Thank you to James Thorpe for getting the stadium ready for our Senior Sunrise breakfast crew. The students had a great time and they made sure the stadium was spotless before they left.
