A Note from Principal Presley
Happy Friday!
This week was a rainy but wonderful one! Coming from Arizona, I'm still adjusting to having time changes and gloomy weather. These dark afternoons are still getting to me. This Tuesday, our instructional learning team (ILT) worked on a plan for the next several weeks in professional learning communities (PLCs). Staff will be selecting focal students to prioritize when using the learning cycle in PLCs to ensure students are at the focus for all we do. Wednesday evening, I was able to head to Sweet Basil and enjoy some delicious Thai food to support our PTA/engage with many parents picking up dinner, too! Yesterday, principals met with Dr. Franco (chief of schools) about the budget. This conversation and advocacy work will continue through the foreseeable future with a looming $40 million budget cut on the line. Step one is assessing the cost and impact of our current programs/positions to ensure highest leverage ones are prioritized to continue into the 25-26 SY.
Next week is our first full week of November- I'm still shocked by the amount of non student facing days this month. On Monday, PTA meets at 7:00 PM both virtually and in the library. I hope to see many of you there! Next Wednesday is another early release day, so students will be dismissed at 12:45 PM. Staff will focus on accountability with the Center for Equity and Inclusion. I was fortunate enough to experience a snippet of it this summer, and it's going to be incredibly beneficial for us! Finally, a special thanks to those of you who have spread the word about our open PE position. Thanks to you all, we have had several candidates apply and will be holding interviews next week!
This weekend, I have the joy of traveling to Madison, Wisconsin with my husband to meet up with some friends for the Duck game! I never thought I'd be heading back to the midwest during this time of year, but I'm sure we will have a great time! I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend, too!

Library News
We appreciate all the help we've received this year from our Library volunteers who shelve, organize, repair books, and provide important organizational tools to help our school's Library run as smoothly as possible! If you are interested in doing one or more shifts, the Signup Genius link for library volunteers now has dates into February, 2025.
Local bookstore, A Children's Place Bookstore is once again generously offering our Library a fundraising event on Dec. 10 and 11. Mention Beverly Cleary School and 20% of your purchase will be donated to our Library. Please mark your calendars now and plan to do any holiday book shopping while supporting our school library.
The Library just received a huge shipment of new books. Ask your student if they've seen a new book that sparks their interest! Furthermore, if your family or student has recently discovered a great read you think our library should have in its collection, please drop teacher-librarian Nancy Gilkey an email letting her know about it at ngilkey@pps.net.
