Happy Friday!
This month has been very busy. Thank you to all of our parents for coming to several events we held this month; Pastries with Parents and Gold Pride. We also saw so many of our Gold and Blue Academy families having a great time at our Dance with Someone You Love K-2nd grade. We could not have any events without our parents, community members, and our staff volunteers. Thank you!
Our 2nd and 3rd grade students will participate in the IREAD assessment. Our 2nd graders will begin testing for this assessment the week of March 3rd and our 3rd grade students will participate in this assessment the week of March 10th.
During our Gold Pride celebration, our 3rd grade students shared some IREAD Tips with our 2nd graders. IREAD Tips from our 3rd grade students are:
Take your time reading.
Go back and look in the text for answers.
Go through all the answer choices to make sure you choose the best one.
Listen carefully to all directions.
Pay attention to sounds, not just letters.
Our six grade helpers also shared fun facts about reading:
Reading stimulates the brain. When kids read, their brains light up like Christmas trees! Reading helps your ability to focus and concentrate.
Reading can improve memory, it helps you recall information.
Reading improves vocabulary. Every time a child reads a new book, they are likely to come across words that they don’t know.
Did you know that by reading for 20 minutes a day, you will read one million eight hundred thousand words per year? So every book that you read counts.
At the end of Gold Pride I gave every student a challenge. The challenge was to select one book to read for enjoyment. Once they are finished with reading the book when they see Mrs. Klein or myself they can share what they learned and enjoyed about the book.
Pastries with Parents
We had a great turnout on Thursday morning with Pastries with Parents. Thank you to Gale Watson for a great presentation.
Staff Souper Bowl
The staff Souper Bowl was a hit with delicious soups from Keevers Kitchen!

Valentine Dance for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades
Valentine Breakfast and Lunch for Staff
We love our Gold Academy staff! Today we treated them to Long's donuts (they were all gone before I could get a picture) and heart shaped pizzas from Chicago's Greenwood!
How cute are Miss Collins and Miss Birmingham twinning on Valentine's Day?
Mrs. Bailey-Stull and Ms. Bechtold's classes celebrated Valentine's Day with their kiddos today.

Impacks School Supplies!
More information will be coming soon about the Impacks Back To School Supplies! We partnered with them last year and it was very successful. The kits were delivered to the school on Meet the Teacher night and had everything needed for your child.
