Bulldog Closet: The Bulldog Closet is here to support our high school community, providing clothing, hygiene products, school supplies, and other essentials to students and staff. Thanks to ongoing donations, we’re able to keep it well stocked, and at this time, we’re especially looking for deodorant, conditioner, body wash, and gently used sweatshirts and sneakers in all sizes. ~Mrs. Hebert

We wrapped up the first quarter of the school year already, and are starting off strong headed into the last half of the first semester! Fall sports are winding down, and we're ramping up with meetings and tryouts for the winter seasons. There are so many great things happening here at LHS from successful fundraisers and student activities to amazing classroom projects and learning opportunities...I'm still amazed by how much we do each and every day here as I roam the hallways! ~ Mr. Cyr
It's Great To Be A Bulldog!
What's going on at LHS...
- Penny Wars kicked off this week! This is a battle between the classes and staff that will raise money for the LHS backpack program, and will help support our Christmas for Teens drive.
- We had our first Community Advisory this week with guest speaker from Waterville Creates, Serena Sanborn, who introduced our students to all of the happenings and activities that are available.
- JMG organized a visit from Universal Technical Institute this week, and invited all interested students to attend an informational session about the school and technical careers.
- LEAP had a table at the craft fair with baked goods and crafts. They raffled off a quilt that was donated by Mrs. Taylor, a former employee, and won by 2024 graduate, Lizie Dumont. The LEAP students, staff, and assisting family members raised over $400.00 for the program!
- The next Senior Parent Meeting is scheduled for January 6th, 6pm in the library.

Meet Our Staff!
Mr. Kandiko
I've lived in Madison Maine for 30 years with my wife Lynn. We have 100 acres of fields and woods, where we enjoy spending time outside with our Springer Spaniel, Daisy. We have a Camp in Caratunk, where we spend much of our summers.
We have two grown daughters, Lindsey and Savanna. Lindsey is a happily married Engineer. She is due to have our first Grandchild, Nov. 27.
I've been a lifetime long distance runner and outdoor enthusiast. A white water guide for over 30 years. Both daughters are river guides. A family that plays together, stays together.
I grew up in Ohio on a small farm that my parents still have. I worked my way through college working on Dairy Farms. I have shown Guernseys at the Ohio State Fair. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Natural Resources. Not a Mainer but I Love Maine.
I started teaching 8 years ago, when my daughter, Savanna, recruited me to teach sciences at Madison Jr High, where she was teaching Social Studies.
My favorite life experience was rowing a raft for 23 days, 250 miles through the Grand Canyon with 14 friends and my Uncle. WOW.

Respiratory illness season will be here soon (for some it has already arrived!). Preventing the spread of respiratory illnesses is key to keeping students healthy and in school. Here are some things you can do and encourage your children to do to stop the spread of illness:
Frequent handwashing/ use of hand sanitizer
Disinfect frequently touched surfaces (such as doorknobs, sink and toilet handles, remote controls)
Get plenty of sleep, eat a well-balanced diet, and stay hydrated
Stay away from others if you are sick or they are sick
Stay up to date with your immunizations, including influenza, COVID-19, and if you qualify, RSV vaccines.
If you need to contact the school nurse: 453-4200 ext 6120 or at dturlo@msad49.org.

Positive Affirmations:
What are positive affirmations?
They are an intentional form of self-talk in which you tell yourself supportive, encouraging things.
Benefits of positive affirmations include:
- Decreasing health-deteriorating stress.
- Controlling self-sabotaging thoughts and speech.
- Reducing anxiety.
- Improving mood.
- Promoting positive coping.
Enhancing self-esteem
Negative Self Talk comes very easy, and it is often harder for our brains to find the positive. The good news is that we can "train our brain" to think more positively.
Common Negative Self Talk:
"I can never do anything right"
" I am worthless"
" There is just no use"
" I'll always be lonely"
Transform those negative thoughts into positive ones:
" I am a really good listener and my friends appreciate me"
" I cannot control how other people think or act, but I can control how I respond"
" Most of the things I worry about, never actually happen"
" My body is strong and it keeps me moving everyday"
Practice saying positive affirmations daily- over time- your brain will begin to automatically think positive, instead of negative.
