Dear OUSD Community:
Last week, on October 1, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a future mandate for California students to receive the COVID-19 vaccination in order to receive in-person instruction. The vaccine mandate does not take effect until the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves its use in children. Students would be required to be vaccinated for in-person learning starting the term following full FDA approval of the vaccine for their grade span (7-12 and K-6). At that time, the COVID-19 vaccination may also be added to the existing list of required immunizations students need to enroll in school.
In the initial phase, all K-12 school employees would also be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. However, medical, personal, and religious exemptions will be allowed for students and staff, the governor said.
While we must follow state directives, District staff needs time to review the mandate and determine our next steps. We will continue to share updates and keep our community informed when we have more information to share.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we continue to work with local public health officials to stay up-to-date on the latest guidance.
Warmest Regards,
Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D.

Facilities Master Plan Update
Our 2021 Facilities Master Plan documents are available on our website at https://www.orangeusd.org/departments/facilities-planning/facilitiesmasterplan/facilities-master-plan-july-2021
Orange Unified School District completed a District-wide Facilities Master Plan (approved by the Board of Education on July 22, 2021) to identify long-term demographic trends, assess current facilities conditions, and envision educational program opportunities in order to develop strategies that address these needs and their impact on facilities in a comprehensive and thoughtful manner. The Facilities Master Plan has been carefully aligned with and supports the Orange Unified EDGE Strategic Goals and Priorities.
As a District, we value our stakeholders and understand that an effective Facilities Master Plan must be built on a foundation of District, Student, Parent, and Local Community input. Thank you to the over 1,000 stakeholders who participated in this process!
