SUMMER 2024 COURSES
Summer Leadership Institute: June 17-28, in person. Class is full -- Waiting List only.
Our defining course focuses on the teacher as a learner, reader, writer and researcher. This is a two-week, three hour, in-person, transformational experience.
Writing in New Media: June 24 - Aug. 9, online with weekly Zoom.
Focused on both the theory and practice of teaching writing in the age of new media, including the implications of AI.
The summer courses are required courses in the Grad Certificate of Teaching Writing, a program designed to support practicing teachers. Classes are convenient and relevant.UCM Alum have application fees waived.

Summer Camps for Young Writers
Since 1983, the GKCWP has offered creative writing camps in locations throughout the city. Participants will write daily in a creative and supportive environment. The sessions are designed and led by experienced teachers of writing. At the end of each session, writers will share their favorite pieces with friends and families at an Open Mic celebration.
Session 1: July 9-12, 2024: UCM Lee's Summit, 1101 Innovation Parkway
Session 2: July 16-19, 2024: Anita Gorman Discovery Center, 4750 Troost
All sessions meet Tuesday - Friday, 9am - 2pm.

Veteran Voices of the Heartland
Secondary social studies teachers are invited to join a place-based, primary research project this summer, working alongside the UCM history department and local geneaologists at some of Missouri's National Cemeteries. Please feel free to share this information with any colleagues who might be interested.
Upcoming Events
NWP will host an online Missouri Scoring Conference June 12-14 to focus on assessing student writing with an Analytic Writing Continuum. This event is synchronous from 9:30 am - 5:30 pm each day with multiple breaks and one hour for lunch. You will need a device, reliable internet, and a quiet place to work. Participants will receive a $600 stipend and an NWP Scorer micro-credential. If you are interested, please complete the application (as soon as possible).
The MWPN (our state network of sites) is hosting a free mini-conference in Columbia, June 5.
