The Kreiva Chronicle
🦃 Volume 4, Issue 3 🦃
🧡 🧡 🧡
The late fall season and the approaching winter holidays always remind me about the importance of community and the critical role it plays in our lives. Through community we can experience the joy of the season as well as be lifted up through times of challenge. A community also provides a space and place to safely share, hear and celebrate our unique voices. Within Kreiva, I see a community of individuals who have all made a conscious choice to be part of something truly special- a community passionately dedicated to a holistic educational experience- one not only focused on the academic nature of school but the human side, where we build capacity to teach and learn through seeking understanding of one another. Being part of a community requires us all to commit to showing up and being part of something greater than ourselves. The hard work of so many in the Kreiva community of students, staff, families, board members, and community partners has brought us to the place we are today as a school that truly has heart and provides a learning home for our students that values and listens to what is needed for each individual’s school success.
As a school community, we are excited and ready to pull together a group of stakeholders to design a commitment to the work forward through the creation of what is called A Portrait of a Graduate. We enter into this work now after having laid a strong foundation for the school and the work ahead. Through the Portrait of a Graduate design process, stakeholders (a focus group of students, board members and staff, family members, etc.) document a shared vision of the attributes/skills that Kreiva students will be equipped with upon graduation. This work will take place in 5-7 monthly, 1-1.5 hour meetings during the Winter and Spring this year. Meetings will take place after school hours. Please fill out this very brief SURVEY if you are interested in learning more about taking part in the Kreiva Academy Portrait of a Graduate Focus Group.
Your contributions and support enable the work at Kreiva to effectively continue and we are grateful for all of your partnership- past, present, and future.
Regards,
Jenn

Radio Drama Podcast
Our Radio Drama Podcast class has been rehearsing for our upcoming audio performance of “The Edgar Allen Poe Afterlife Radio Show”. Students are voice acting and creating foley art sound effects for the recorded production. Information for how you can hear our recording will be announced via email on Nov. 20th, the day of Trimester 1 Exhibition.
Costuming & Stage Makeup
WARNING: These wounds are special FX makeup, and NOT real!
Costuming & Stage Makeup Class is excited to share their makeup wounds created from scar wax, theatrical creme makeup, and fake blood gel.
Painting and Drawing
Painting and Drawing Block 1A has been busy participating in INKTOBER, a month-long initiative that encourages positive drawing habits and improved inking skills. In addition, students have started creating art pieces inspired by an artist of choice.
Alchemy
Alchemy has been learning methods and equipment necessary to run an experiment. Students did an ancient alchemical experiment to turn a penny into gold. We are learning how to predict an element’s property by using trends in the Periodic Table. Students have also been helping test the pH and nutrient level for the school’s new hydroponic garden.
Explore the Ocean World
Explore the Ocean World attended Ocean Discovery Day at UNH at the beginning of October.
Students learned about several research projects, aquaculture, ROVs, wave energy, and ocean floor mapping. We are testing the growth rate of algae through Algae Academy and learning about photosynthesis with algae beads.
Hierarchy of Life
Hierarchy of Life has been working on the Plant Power Transformative Learning Experience (TLE), a partnership with Springpoint. Students are researching food access in the community and will be creating and testing a greenhouse model. Students have also been helping plant and harvest fresh vegetables from the school’s new hydroponic garden.
Become a Scientist
Become a Scientist has been learning the metric system. Students made outlines of their bodies and measured using metric units. We have done a measuring lab to measure length, volume, and mass and a scavenger hunt to practice conversion.
Announcements and Reminders
❗Attendance and Dismissals❗
To report absences, late arrivals, or early dismissals, please email attendance@kreiva.org by 9am. This helps us ensure your student is dismissed on time and keeps everything running smoothly. For quick and efficient handling, please don’t report attendance updates, late arrivals, or dismissals to teachers, staff, or the front office.
Please note that parents must come into the building to dismiss their child—calling the school and asking for your child to be sent out is not permitted. The office needs prior notification through email to dismiss your student, and calling without doing so first may cause delays. Thank you for helping us keep things organized!
