Farewell to the 2023-2024 School Year!
Dear Bogota School Community,
Congratulations to everyone on an outstanding school year! Your support and involvement have been invaluable, and we are grateful for your partnership in your child's education.
As we head into summer, we encourage everyone to relax and recharge. However, we also want to emphasize the importance of keeping your child's mind active during the break. Encourage them to read and explore new worlds through books, as this will help maintain their learning momentum. Please see below for 2024 Summer Assignment link..
Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful and restful summer break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back, refreshed and ready for another great year!
Warm regards,
Damian Kennedy

Referendum Update
The referendum project has commenced, with renovations underway for Bixby and the High School bathrooms, slated for completion this summer. Progress on the Career Technical building is on track following the completion of demolition, and we anticipate opening in September 2025. The Fields project awaits DEP approval, and we expect a decision within the next two weeks, aiming to break ground this summer after a lengthy process. Looking ahead, we're in the planning stages for our next set of projects: expanding the Bixby gym, renovating the BHS auditorium and Media center, and upgrading electrical systems across all buildings. These initiatives are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025.

Congratualtions to the BHS 2024 Graduates
This year's graduating class has achieved remarkable success, being accepted into over 110 different colleges, universities, and trade schools. Their hard work and dedication have also resulted in an impressive accumulation of over 9.3 million dollars in scholarships and grants. These accomplishments reflect not only the students' academic excellence but also their perseverance and commitment to their futures. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and excited to see the bright paths they will continue to forge in their respective fields.
BHS Early College Program
Congratulations to seniors Makayla Douglas, Anabel Jimenez, Joshua Gesmundo, and Dave Castillo! These four Bogota High School students graduated from Bergen Community College last month as part of our Early College Program. This rigorous academic program allows juniors and seniors to concurrently take high school and Bergen Community College courses, ultimately earning both a high school diploma and a 60-credit associate degree by the end of their senior year.

Sustainability and Hydroponics, NJ Sustainable Schools Grant
Our schools have been hard at work with some amazing initiatives in food and sustainability! Firstly, our school district was awarded a $10,000 grant from NJ Sustainable Schools to improve our waste and recycling efforts. Much of the grant funding will go towards purchasing the needed receptacles, signage, and supplies to implement districtwide recycling within our schools. Furthermore, schools are looking to reduce the amount of existing food and cafeteria waste.
Our high school environmental club, with the help of the environmental club advisors Dr. Murphy and Ms. Surinder Kaur, along with student volunteers, conducted two days’ worth of what we call a “food audit” during the high school lunch periods. During the food audit, we were able to sort out trash, recyclables, and food waste. Volume and weight were recorded to truly determine how much waste we produced. This will be our baseline data to measure our improvement efforts next year!
Finally, schools have been experimenting and producing food with our hydroponic gardening units. Thus far, we’ve grown various varieties of lettuce, which goes to the cafeteria for consumption, tomatoes, and now, strawberries! At max efficiency, we can grow about 15-20 lbs of lettuce every 4 weeks per hydroponic unit! That is a lot of salad! There are some very interesting and exciting things happening with our hydroponics.
If you are interested in learning more about our hydroponic units or getting involved with our sustainability efforts, please fill out this Google form and we’ll get in touch!
