Mrs. Michels Weekly Updates
Let's make it a great week!
Weekly Updates and Reminders 11/4-11/15
Hello Hamilton Families!
Thank you all for coming out to the Halloween Parade! It was great to see so many family members there! We got very lucky with the weather! Thank you to everyone who donated candy and time so our kiddos could have such nice treats.
Envolve Vision Van 11/21
GREAT NEWS!! Hamilton has been chosen to have a visit from the Vision Van. Meridian Health and Envolve have partnered up to bring the Vision Van to Hamilton. All students who turns in a permission slip will receive a free screening, eye exam AND glasses if necessary! There is no cost to you and the only thing you need to do is return the permission slip that your child is bringing home on Monday. This is such a great opportunity for our students! Please make sure to sign the permission slips that come home Monday and return them right away! We want all of our students to take advantage of this amazing opportunity!
Food & Hygiene Pantry
We have a number of food and hygiene items in our pantry for any of our Hamilton Families. Please stop in the office or message me on Dojo if you or someone you know is in need and we will set up a time for you to come pick up your items. We also have items for lice treatment!
Student Concerns
If you have an issue that needs to be addressed please make sure you reach out to your child's teacher and not confront other children or parents regarding situations that happen at school. I assure you that 100% of the time there are two sides (or more) to the story and you are likely only getting 1 perspective. This is not to say your child is being dishonest, it is just their point of view and there may be details you are not aware of and then jumping to conclusions. Please allow our staff at the school to address any issue you have by bringing it to our attention. I thank you in advance for not confronting other peoples children or other adults.

Progress notes
Progress notes will (if not already) all be out by 11/8. Please take time to look them over and reach out to your child's teacher with any questions. We will have conferences in December. The teachers contract is still under negotiations with the district so we don't have those dates just yet but as soon as I receive the dates I will share them out.
Arrival:
As the weather gets colder please remember that our doors do not open until 8:15, regardless of the weather. Dress your child accordingly and plan your drop off time so they are not waiting outside too long. The reason for this is that staff do not report before this time, therefore I can't have students in the building before the monitors start time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support!
Lost and Found:
Our lost and found racks are already filled up! If your child is missing some clothes stop in and check the lost and found. It is also a good idea to put their name or initials on the tag so we can track down the owner too!
Community Eligibility Provision
Why Completing the Education Benefits Form Matters for Your Family and School
Wayne-Westland Community Schools is proud to continue participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2024-2025 school year as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. This ensures that ALL enrolled students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE to your household!
To help us maintain this program, we ask parents and guardians to complete and sign the Education Benefits Form (available on the Meal Magic Family Portal) and return it to your child's school as soon as possible.
Families should complete their Education Benefits Form because it directly impacts both the school and the family in several ways:
School Funding: Completing the form helps schools receive vital state and federal funding for programs and resources that benefit all students, including classroom supplies, educational programs, and additional staffing.
Meal Program Eligibility: The form determines eligibility for free or reduced-price meals, which can help families save on school meal costs.
Discounts and Benefits: Eligible families may qualify for additional benefits like reduced fees for sports programs, testing, and even internet services.
No Risk, Only Benefits: Even if families don't think they qualify, submitting the form ensures the school can access the maximum available resources for the entire student body.
Encouraging all families to complete the form ensures that schools can continue providing quality education and support to all students. For any questions or assistance, contact our Food Services Department at 734-419-2118.
Snack Bar
Snack bar has begun! Students will be able to go to snack bar if they eat the majority of their main meal. Students may purchase up to two items at a time. Students must give money in the morning to be sent to the cashier so the money can be added to their account. Parents may also go to the https://payschoolscentral.com/ website to add money to your child's account. No cash will be accepted in the lunch room. Students can also purchase an extra slice of pizza on Tuesdays for $2.00, this money also needs to be given to the teacher in the morning so the appropriate amount of pizza is ordered. This can as be paid on the the Payschoolscentral.com website. Your child will have to order extra slice and let the teacher know there is money on their account as the teacher has no access to the students lunch money account.
Please also remember that we do not allow pop in school. Students may only have water in the classroom, juice or other non pop drinks with lunch are okay. Please do not give them flavored water for their classroom water bottle, just plain water. That way if it spills we don't have a sticky mess or ruin our materials.

Transportation
We are having some issues with behavior on the bus. Please talk to your student and remind them of the expected behavior on the bus. Please keep in mind that the bus is a privilege and if your child is loses his/her privilege of using the bus they are still required to attend school. Being safe on the bus is critical and the expectation for all students who ride the bus. Students who do not follow the bus expectations will have consequences and if the behavior is repeated they could be removed from the bus.
The district has an app called Here Comes the Bus. This wonderful free app allows you to track exactly where you child's bus is at all times.
