Student Teaching for Special Education
Hello Keller families!
I wanted to share some news. I will have a substitute in the gym for the next few weeks. I am completing my student teaching for my master's degree in Special Education. I already have a Bachelor's degree for Physical Education where I student taught years ago. I need to fulfill specific requirements for my master's degree. Luckily, I will be staying at Keller in one of the Special Education rooms. I look forward to being back in the gym as soon as possible!
About Me
Hello! My name is Kristen Carnahan and I am the new physical education teacher at Keller Elementary. I have worked in Royal Oak schools for 8 years. I earned my degree from Albion College and am currently pursuing my master's degree at Eastern Michigan University.
My husband and I live in Clawson with our two kids. Rylee is my 9 year old daughter and she is in third grade at Clawson Elementary School. My son, Beckett, is 6 years old and in first grade. We enjoy spending time traveling around Michigan and visiting the beach. In my free time I coach my son's soccer and baseball teams. I recently became a Girl Scout leader for my daughter's troop. If you want Girl Scout cookies send me a message! πͺ
I look forward to learning more about all the students at Keller and introducing new ways to be active.
Please reach out if you have any questions!
Soon Keller 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be raising money for the American Heart Association through the Kids Heart Challenge. As a special thank you for your participation in Kids Heart Challenge, the American Heart Association is inviting Keller Elementary School families to celebrate with Detroit Pistons on Friday, April 11th at 7PM as they take on the Milwaukee Bucks! ππ
- All students will receive a complimentary ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket.
- All students will have the opportunity to take a free throw shot on-court post-game.
- 15 students will be chosen at random to participate as Anthem Buddies on court!
Roller skating in PE
December 9th we started our roller skating unit in physical education class. Skating provides a variety of benefits such as balance, coordination, motor skills and building muscle strength. The students have been very excited to start skating.
Thank you to the PTA for giving the students the opportunity to roller skate! I would also like to thank all the volunteers that have helped and that have signed up. The students and I are appreciate you!
Elks Hoop Shoot
πDuring the month of October the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students competed in a free throw shooting contest in PE. On December 14th, the top boys and girls for each age group move on to compete against other Royal Oak students. Jack Karaszewski won 1st place and Vince Spinale earned 2nd place after a shoot out!
On January 11th, 2025, Jack Karaszewski competed in the District competition against other schools in the area. He won 1st place making 22 out of 25 free throws! He will now move on to the state competition in February held at Ferris State University.
Congratulations, Jack! π
