Remote Student MAP Testing - Sign Up Needed
We have decided as a District not to allow remote testing during the middle of year MAP testing window due to inconsistencies with data and network capability. Please know we have taken lots of measures to ensure the safety of your students coming to school test.
Remote students coming in to test will not be in contact with any of our F2F students. The remote students will only be in contact with 1 or 2 teachers/staff members. All students will be screened, temperature taken, and required to wear a mask. Every computer station, headset, mouse, chair, etc. will be sanitized prior to testing and after each student completes testing. In addition, each computer lab only accommodates 9 students with each student adequately spaced amongst one another.
The MAP test help identify academic strengths and weaknesses, and MAP tests help inform our instruction in order to meet the needs of each student. While the data we receive from the MAP tests is invaluable to student’s academic plan, we want to make it clear that MAP testing is not mandatory.
If student participated in the MAP Growth assessment in August/September, you received a report detailing his/her scores in math and reading and/or science. With this winter assessment, you will receive a report detailing both fall (beginning of year) and winter (middle of year) scores. You will be able to determine the academic growth of your child from September to January/February. This academic growth information will support ongoing communication between schools and homes thereby positively influencing your child.
I hope this eases some fears and provides you with information as to why the MAP test is important for student’s teachers and his ongoing success.
Please let me know if I can answer any further questions. Please use the following link to sign up for a time to bring your remote student in to test.

Remote Learner Expectations
PREPARATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR STUDENTS ARE PREPARED FOR REMOTE LEARNING EVERY DAY. STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO:
- BE ON TIME - Instruction begins promptly at the beginning of each class time.
- be dressed - shirts and bottoms (pants/shorts/skirts)
- be sitting up - not lying down in bed.
- be visible - no blankets over their heads - STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE THEIR CAMERAS ON.
- not be eating - they have lots of time to grab snacks and lunch during asynchronous learning time AND a built in lunch/recess time.
- enter the Google Meet with mics muted to help teachers if lessons have already started.
Spring Intersession - March 8-12
Spring Intersession and Spring Break are right around the corner! The March 8-12 Intersession is geared to provide academic intervention for students who are in need of remediation. Class offerings for Spring Intersession will be:
- Closing the Gaps in Reading
- Closing the Gaps in Math
Spring Break for all students is March 15-19. Families will be notified by their child's teacher if your child is in need of remediation. Students who do not require remediation may enjoy a 2 week break.
Please contact the school or email Andrea Kleckner at abkleckn@garlandisd.net if you have any questions.
