From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
To all of you who served over Wurstbraten weekend, thank you! Over 320 of you volunteered, we sold all 10,500 pounds (which, by the way, is about the weight of two elephants) of the sausage we made, and we raised around $65,000 for ministry. Your support is what makes all this possible!
This coming Monday is Veterans Day. To those who have served or are serving in our nation’s Armed Forces, we are extremely grateful for you. You have not only served, but you have also sacrificed to protect our freedoms. We honor your service, and we thank God for you and your families.
In worship this weekend, we’ll kick off a new series called “Un-trivial Pursuit.” If you’ve ever played Trivial Pursuit, you know that having the answers to trivial questions can lead to a big win in a fun game. But there are many questions that are not trivial. Questions like: Why is there so much evil in the world? And: How do I know God’s will for my life? In this series, we’ll tackle some of these fundamental questions. And we’ll begin with the one of the most basic questions about faith: Is there a God? To wrestle with this question, we’ll look at Hebrews 11:1-6, which considers what it means to have faith in God:
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead. By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that he exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him.
The preacher of Hebrews invites us to “believe that God exists” by faith. But what kind of faith is needed to believe in God? Blind faith? Wishful thinking? Or something else? Join us as we discuss why it is not only possible, but plausible to believe in God this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!

Please review the concept diagrams located on the MPC table in the Lobby and submit a feedback form with your comments and/or questions. Your feedback is very important! Please let us know what you like and what we missed, so we can plan for the future needs of Zion. Family Day of Giving and Thanks
On November 27 at 9 am, Zion will be sharing meal kits with nearby families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner. You can sign up here to help bless a family on Thanksgiving Eve. If you can’t help pass out meal kits, you can still donate to help purchase perishable food items for these kits by writing “Thanksgiving” in the memo portion of a check written to Zion.
Lutheran Disaster Care Coat Drive for Hurricane Victims
Lutheran Disaster Care is organizing a Coat Drive to support those impacted by the recent hurricanes in North Carolina. As colder weather approaches, many families are in need of warm coats to stay safe and comfortable.
We are asking all Lutheran churches to participate in this effort by collecting new and gently used coats through November 10. Your donations will make a real difference for those struggling to recover from the devastation.
For more information or to get involved, please contact Dan Cowan 817-992-1138. Together, we can show the love and care of Christ to those in need.
Iron Sharpens Iron
November 10th, 5:30-7:30pm Zion Worship Center
Men- the simple Bible verse of John 20:21 says "Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” Have you felt the tug to tell someone about Jesus or have examples/stories you would like to share in addition to learning more about sharing your faith?
The next Iron Sharpens Iron will focus on examples and stories of sharing your faith as well as how to grow in sharing your faith. Pastor Zach will be our moderator and teacher in helping us learn and grow in this aspect of our walk with Jesus!
We invite you to (anonymously) submit stories and examples of sharing your faith, along with questions you may have about sharing your faith to the email zionwalburg.isi@gmail.com . These questions and stories will be shared/discussed on that evening as information for us to grow and learn about sharing our faith!
We look forward to seeing you there! As always, there will be a free meal and time to get to know each other!

Wurstbraten History Report from Weldon Mersiovsky
As many of you may know, I have recently been accumulating pictures, documents, and stories about Wurstbraten from the very first one in 1971 until now. My original intent was to put this into a book and publish it; however, I have come to the realization that it would be more effective and inclusive to put what I have collected onto a website accessible through our church website. To that end we have purchased and now own the internet domain of wurstbraten.org and now want to solicit from among you anyone who has website design experience and willingness to implement, design, and build the website onto which we can load what has been gathered. I am hoping that we can develop a team that handles all of the functions necessary to do this.
If you would like to help in this regard, please get in contact with me and we can decide on how to proceed.
My email is 49weldon72@gmail.com and my phone is 512-635-6429.
Thank you! Weldon Mersiovsky

"New Course Empowers Teenagers in Spiritual Conversations"
"Spiritual Conversations: Sharing Life, Faith, and Jesus with Friends " is a 7-lesson course from LHM. It's designed for teachers and youth leaders to help high school-aged students recognize and respond to opportunities to have spiritual conversations. Lessons can be presented daily, weekly, or even monthly, depending on the context and schedule of the group.
Combining insights from Barna Group research and LHM's commitment to equipping people to share the Gospel, this course includes interactive group activities, videos, data to consider, opportunities for discussions on Scripture and faith-sharing conversations, and more.
"Amusing role-playing videos of teenagers having really bad spiritual conversations enhance the lessons and capture their imaginations," says Chris Macky, content development manager and course developer.
The underlying motivator in "Spiritual Conversations: Sharing Life, Faith, and Jesus with Friends" is the apostle Paul's exhortation in Colossians 4:5-6 to "Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person."
"We hope this course empowers teenagers to engage their peers in spiritual conversations by removing some common assumptions about sharing their faith that might scare them away from these conversations. Regardless of where a student is in their faith journey, we hope they are challenged to be a friend, not an influencer." Macky says. "This generation is called the open generation because it's comfortable talking about important things with others in ways that are nonjudgmental and tolerant. This is the perfect milieu for effective spiritual conversations," he adds.
