SUN Bucks is a new federal program (formerly known as Summer EBT) that provides $120 in child food benefits to bridge the summer meal gap. SUN Bucks is a joint effort with District 196 and MN Department of Children, Youth, and Families. The SUN Bucks card is mailed from MN Department of Children, Youth, and Families to the primary address District 196 has on file. School-aged children between the ages of 7-17 whose households participate in specific public assistance programs or qualify to receive educational benefits can receive this summer benefit. Families not yet enrolled should apply for educational benefits through our school district. Support the Learning Commons – View Our Wishlist!
The EVHS Learning Commons accepts a variety of donations that help foster hands-on learning, creativity, and exploration. From craft supplies to tech tools, every contribution helps enrich student experiences. You can view our full wish list here.
Right now, our top need is used smartphones. These devices will be used to power our VR headsets and run our Sphero robots—bringing interactive, tech-rich learning opportunities to life. Even older or imperfect phones can still make a meaningful impact in our makerspace.
Smartphone Donation Criteria:
To be compatible with our equipment, donated phones should:
- Be unlocked (not tied to a specific carrier)
- Have Wi-Fi capability (cell service is not required)
- Have a working screen and basic touch functionality
- Be usable even with limited battery life (phones can remain plugged in)
- Be either iPhones or Android devices
All phones will be factory reset before being used by students.
How to Donate:
Please label your donation “Learning Commons” and bring it to the West Door Security Desk (#1) at Eastview High School. We appreciate your support in helping us create a vibrant, innovative space where students can explore, create, and learn. For any questions, please contact Ms. Sonnenberg in the Learning Commons.
Educational Benefits - More Than Just Lunch
Families are encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application. Your children may qualify! Applications are now open.
While meals are free for all students, all families are highly encouraged to complete an Application for Educational Benefits. Your approved application provides critical funding to our school district. This compensatory aid helps increase funding for teachers, paraprofessionals and social workers to include math and reading support. An approval for educational benefits also allows families to receive discounted Activities/Community Education fees. Learn more about the Educational Benefits Program.
Questions or concerns: ask our Nutrition Services department at Nutrition@district196.org or 651-683-6958.

Calling All Students for WIN Wednesday!
Students can benefit from an opportunity for academic support every Wednesday afternoon from 2:40pm – 4:15pm in the flex room located in the learning commons. Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. In addition students can also utilize the WIN program to make up tests they may have missed. Students can get this approved through their teacher ahead of time and the test will be ready for them to take during WIN. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. Students do not need to sign up in advance for WIN Time. We do ask that students plan to be there for the start at 2:40pm so they can benefit from the full support. We will keep a log of students and their engagement (arrival/departure time and their focus/work while they are there). For students needing transportation home, activity buses will be available departing at 4:45pm.
