How would you say the sentences below in Spanish?

Veronica is shorter than Fernanda.

Carlos is more intelligent than Luis.

If you're making a comparison using more or an adjective ending in -er, you use más que in Spanish.

Veronica es más baja que Fernanda.

Carlos es más inteligente que Luis.

You simply put más in front of the adjective and then you put que after the adjective.

Por ejemplo:

Jose es trabajador.

Rocío no es trabajadora.

Jose es más trabajador que Rocío.

Make sure that the adjectives agree with the person or word that they describe.

Por ejemplo:

Loida es más seria que Jorge.

The feminine form seria is used because it's describing Loida, not Jorge.

Jorge es más gracioso que Loida.

The masculine form gracioso is used because it's describing Jorge, not Loida.

Carlos y Luis son más groseros que Jorge.

The masculine plural form groseros is used because it's describing both Carlos and Luis.

How would you say the sentences below in Spanish?

Liliana is less kind than Diego.

Alejando is less affectionate than Angelica.

If you want to say less......than, you use menos....que.

Liliana es menos amable que Diego.

Alejandro es menos cariñoso que Angélica.

Just like with más...que, you put menos in front of the adjective and then que after the adjective.

Por ejemplo:

Ricardo está muy emocionado.

Guillermo no está emocionado.

Guillermo está menos emocionado que Ricardo.

Just like with más....que make sure that the adjectives agree with the person or word that they describe.

Por ejemplo,

Itzel es menos morena que Roberto.

The feminine form morena is used because it describes Itzel.

The masculine singlular form perezozo is used because it describes Rodrigo.

For almost all adjectives you simply place mas or menos in front of the adjective when making a comparison. However, there are a few irregulars, and these are ones you've probably already seen.

BETTER - MEJOR

Esta camisa es mejor que esa camisa.

This shirt is better than that shirt.

Las fresas son mejores que las uvas.

Strawberries are better than grapes.

WORSE - PEOR

La película de zombies es peor que la película de vampiros.

The zombie movie is worse than the vampire movie.

Los chícharos son peores que el brócoli.

Peas are worse than brocoli.

OLDER - MAYOR

Mi hermana es mayor que yo.

My sister is older than me.

Los edificios de esta calle son mayores que los edificios de la otra calle.

The buildings on this street are older than the buildings on the other street.

YOUNGER - MENOR

Mi hermano es menor que yo.

My brother is younger than me.

Los cachorros son menores que los gatitos.

The puppies are younger than the kittens.

(*Note: don't use más before any of these irregular comparative adjectives. If you say más mejor, it's like saying more better!)
