Testing
IREAD-3
Next week students in 2nd and 3rd Grade will be taking the IREAD-3 test. Below is a graphic that explains what happens with either a pass or did not pass. For further information about the IREAD-3 with answers to frequent questions as well as samples from the test, please click the button below.
Once results from the IREAD-3 are published, families will be informed through communication directly from the school.
ILEARN Checkpoint #3
The final ILEARN Checkpoint for 3rd-5th Grade students will be done the week of March 24th - 28th. This is the last checkpoint before students take the actual ILEARN in April. The ILEARN Checkpoints are used to provide schools with information showing student progress towards proficiency of what they will be tested on with the ILEARN. All types of questions from the three checkpoints will be assessed in April on the final ILEARN test in Math, ELA, and Science or Social Studies.
School Safety
Drills
This month we will be conducting three different drills - tornado, lockdown and fire. This will be our second semester tornado drill where students will move to hallways, bathrooms, or interior rooms with steps to protect their heads and body should we be in an event of an actual tornado. Students have participated in lockdown and fire drills throughout the year, and so we will continue to provide scenarios to ensure we are prepared in the event of an actual crisis situation.
Walkers
Students who are walking home should be met by those who are walking with them at the end of the second crosswalk near the baseball fields. This is to allow buses to travel into our parking lot safely as they are set to leave our lot by 3:20pm to stay on time for routes. Please help us maintain parking lot safety by not meeting your child prior to the end of the second crosswalk.
District Flyers
School Procedures
Attendance
Students are encouraged to arrive at school by 8:40am (9:25am on Fridays) each day. If a student is not coming to school, the school needs to be informed by the family by 9:45am every day the child is absent. An automated call will go out at 10:40am if the school has not been informed as we account for every child enrolled at our school daily. The key is keeping the school informed on attendance so we can partner with families.
Spring Weather
As we are entering the rollercoaster of spring temperatures, we would encourage students to dress for the weather! This would mean dressing in layers and being mindful that morning temperatures may be dramatically different from recess temperatures. If you should have any clothing needs, please reach out to Mrs. Kuczmanski, school counselor, or Mrs. Black, school nurse.
Late Start Fridays
Each Friday our staff are fortunate to learn alongside one another in a district-wide time. This means that school starts 45-minutes later than our normal time. Below are times to be aware of:
8:20am - Doors open for students to either go to breakfast or the gym to wait.
9:05am - Arrival bell for students to arrive now 45-minutes later on Fridays only.
9:15am - Students are released to their homeroom classrooms.
9:25am - Tardy bell for students to be in class and morning announcements start shortly after.
Showcases of Learning & Other Visits
As we continue to increase opportunities for families to come into our school, it will be important that all guests come through the main office door. Visitors will need to bring an ID to sign in and then a sticker to wear informing staff that you are clear to be inside the building. Thank you for helping keep our school safe and secure for students by following this process.

Schedule
NPUSC have used both snow days that will now be made up on February 10th and March 17th. The next snow day will result in virtual eLearning that is live. Below is a link that is a copy of the schedule last year that guides the instructional times.
Student Expectations
Expectations are that students join each of the instructional blocks, and by attending all they are counted present. The instruction that happens during an eLearning day is meant to continue learning. Teachers will be providing live instruction to students via Zoom or Google Meet. Instructions and information on eLearning will be provided by your child's teacher. Specials will still be incorporated into the day and services from support staff will be available to students with IEPs and ILPs.
Special Events
Read Across America Spirit Week

Camp Read-a-Lot is BACK!
On Friday, March 14th from 4:30-5:30pm we will be hosting our Camp Read-a-Lot Family Night that was postponed back in January due to weather. This will replace the Family Movie Night that was set for the same date. The flyer below shares some of the highlights to expect.
Kindergarten Registration
Tuesday, March 4th online registration will open for incoming kindergarten students to be enrolled into PowerSchool. Please click the button below.
Kindergarten Orientation
Tuesday, March 18th from 5 - 6pm CST, Rolling Prairie will host a Kindergarten Orientation Night. This will be an opportunity to meet the kindergarten teachers, hear from a variety of our school staff that support your child, and visit a school bus on site. Those who need assistance in completing online registration will have support to help walk through completion.
Friday, April 11th from 8am - 3pm CST, Rolling Prairie kindergarten teachers will be conducting screeners to assess where your child is at academically as they come into kindergarten. The screener takes approximately 15-minutes and will be held in our gymnasium. Please click the button below to sign up for a time.
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
How to get involved!
Rolling Prairie Elementary is very blessed to have an active PTO. We encourage all of our families to support the PTO either with participation in fundraisers, supporting events in the classroom or for the whole school, and engaging in PTO meetings. Below are the upcoming PTO dates that are held in the Library at school.
If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please email our leaders at rollingprairiepto@gmail.com.

Volunteers & Visitors
The school is at its best when we are working together. Families and guests that are willing and able to give of their time is such a gift to our kids. If you are interested in partnering with teachers, PTO, or even with other events that happen at Rolling Prairie, please consider completing the background check. The application is digital and once completed, you are good for the school year.
If you have any problems or questions completing the form, please reach out to Richelle Kmak at 574-654-0266.

B.A.R.K. in Action!
B.A.R.K.
Everyday students are reminded about B.A.R.K on the announcements and reinforced throughout the school day. B.A.R.K. stands for B - Be Strong, A - Act like a Bulldog, R - Remember Safety, K - Kindness Matters. Focusing on the positive behavior we want to see helps us reward the great things students do each and everyday. Ways this is done are through Top Dog, Gathering & Leader of the Pack.
Top Dog
Gathering
Leader of the Pack
Our monthly student of the month is recognized through our Leader of the Pack award. This is done each month during a Monday Gathering. One student from each homeroom is selected by their teacher for being a leader and example of B.A.R.K. in school. When a student is selected, they do not know until the morning of when they are announced in front of the entire school. It has been a pleasure to be able to invite families to join us in these special moments that morning. Students receive a certificate with the notable reason that their teacher nominated them and have a chance to celebrate their recognition with the guests who come as Gathering wraps up. Thank you families for sharing in these moments to make this extra special!
