CTE Teacher Preparation Program
News and Updates for October 2023
ποΈ A MESSAGE FROM DR. JILLIAN DAMON
Unlocking Your Teaching Potential with Our CTE Credential Program!
Career Technical Education (CTE) teachers are experts in their field. Their classes provide relevant and real-world content while promoting teamwork and cooperative learning.
We are proud to offer a pathway to a clear CTE Teaching Credential. Our coursework begins with our initial preparation sequence and culminates with our advanced preparation. Upon completion of our program, teachers clear their preliminary CTE credential. CTE Teachers bring their rich industry experience into their classroom. They make connections between their content and traditional educational competencies like Math, English, and Science.
CTE teachers are critical in helping students make connections, build networks, and prepare students for college success. Through their CTE programs, teachers are able to provide their students real-world skills to prepare them to succeed in college, and/or a career that they are passionate about.
CTE courses, and pathways, offer students an opportunity for hands-on learning that facilitates their connections to real-world contexts. CTE teachers expose their students to opportunities to learn about their career interests and passions. They provide learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom setting. Students who participate in CTE programs are more confident about their plans immediately after high school and have a greater understanding of additional pathways outside of a four-year degree to achieve career success. Oftentimes high school students have opportunities to earn college credits through dual enrollment courses.
What does the Research Say?
CTE has been found to increase school connectedness, reduce behavioral problems
related to suspensions and expulsions, and reduce dropout rates among all student
groups β especially among students most at risk of dropping out. (CDE, 2023)
As always, we are here to support you!
Jillian

π KUDOS TO OUR MENTORS!
CTE Mentors Make the Difference!
Our incredible preliminary CTE credential holders are a dynamic force coming to the classroom from diverse backgrounds and unique pathways!
Our mentors are the guides who encourage our candidates with personalized support, nurturing their growth, helping them grasp the curriculum, and fostering their integration into our school community.
In her research, Briggs (2008) examined the correlation between new CTE teacher mentorship and the development of their capacity, retention, and their students' achievement. Briggs found that a thoughtful pairing of mentors and candidates is a significant factor in successful mentorship.
To our mentors, we say THANK YOU a million times over! We appreciate each of you and recognize your daily impact.
Each of our mentors has received the textbook, "Mentoring In Action" by Dr. Radford to enhance their incredible mentorship skills further! We're eagerly awaiting your insights!
