From Dr. Cardenas, Principal
Dear Evergreen Families,
As I reflect on the vibrant month of October, I'm filled with pride at how our school community came together through numerous enriching activities and celebrations. From the spooktacular costume parade that brought smiles to everyone's faces to the memorable events that shaped our month, October truly showcased what makes Evergreen special.
Our achievements and activities this month included:
- Earning the prestigious P.B.I.S. Platinum recognition - a testament to our students' commitment to positive behavior
- Our talented 2nd graders' enchanting "Danse Macabre" performances that demonstrated their artistic growth
- An engaging Red Ribbon Week that reinforced important messages about healthy choices
- Conducting Student Action Team interviews, where our young leaders showed their dedication to serving our school
- A wonderfully successful Family Fun Night that brought our community together
- Our traditional Halloween costume parade that capped off the month with creativity and joy
As we welcome November, I want to express my deepest gratitude to our parent community. Your unwavering support, whether through volunteering, attending events, or supporting your children's education at home, makes Evergreen the exceptional school it is. Your commitment to our school community creates an environment where every student can thrive.
Looking ahead to November, we're excited for new opportunities to learn, grow, and celebrate together.
With appreciation, Dr. Cardenas Principal, Evergreen Elementary School

Message from Marisol Lara, President, Evergreen Community Club
Hello EverGreat Parents,
We can’t believe it’s the end of October already. We hope you enjoyed the spooky season with your little ones. We just hosted our Annual Family Fun Night with our Mayor Stan Liu as our guest DJ. Our Community Club worked hard for our students and parents to enjoy fun filled night and they did not disappoint. It was a successful evening with the help of volunteers from Diamond Bar High School, Key Club, Robotics team, and many of our EverGreat Parents.
Our Yearbook team was busy capturing moments from our Red Ribbon week. The students had some amazing crazy hair day styles this year. Thank you parents for all of your efforts.
On November 4th we kick off our Evergreen Community Club Food/Toy Drive. Our Food/Toy Drive creates such a positive impact on families in our community that may be in need during this holiday season. We will be collecting donations at morning drop off. Please NO EXPIRED FOODS. We request that food is viable for families throughout the holidays, if you know that food will expire before December please do not donate it. Learning is Alive at Evergreen Elementary!
Learning is Alive at Evergreen Elementary!
Have you ever wondered what makes learning so engaging at Evergreen? Let's peek into our classrooms, where powerful instruction happens every day!
In our reading blocks, teachers work with small groups to provide personalized reading instruction that helps each reader grow. Students also practice reading with partners, building both fluency and comprehension skills as they discuss stories together. One of our literacy approaches uses the research-based IMSE Orton Gillingham method, where students see, hear, say, and write new concepts – making learning stick through multiple pathways to the brain.
Math is hands-on and interactive at Evergreen! Students build deep understanding through "Math Talks," where they share different strategies for solving problems. You might see students using manipulatives (physical objects) to explore mathematical concepts, making abstract ideas concrete and meaningful. Math fact fluency practice is transformed into engaging activities that keep students excited about learning.
Writing also comes alive through student collaboration! Before putting pencil to paper, students rehearse their ideas with partners, helping them organize their thoughts and build confidence. This oral practice leads to stronger, more detailed writing.
These research-based practices create an active, supportive learning environment where every student can thrive. Next time you visit, see if you can spot these engaging strategies in action!
Together, we're building confident, capable learners!
The Leader in Me is all around our campus and classrooms!
👏 Great job to all who applied and interviewed, and a huge thank you to our team for making this empowering experience possible! Let’s continue to lead, inspire, and make a difference together. 💪✨
Intervention
In our intervention groups, we have been utilizing the IMSE approach, and I’m pleased to share that the students are thoroughly enjoying the various multisensory strategies we’ve implemented. All students from grades 1 through 5 have engaged enthusiastically with different learning modalities. For instance, they’ve been using the bumpy screen to practice writing red words, rice to explore letter sounds, and even pounding or tapping new words, as well as blending sounds using the red car. Regardless of their age group, the students have demonstrated excitement and enthusiasm during our daily group sessions, making the learning experience both dynamic and enjoyable.
Title One Informational Meeting
EVERGREEN ELEMENTARY TITLE I INFORMATIONAL MEETING
On October 8th, our Evergreen Elementary School Title I Informational Meeting took place, bringing together Evergreen parents in a spirited Fall atmosphere with morning treats. Attendees were treated to a rich discussion on a variety of topics, including an overview of our Title I program and how students qualify for its valuable services. We explored the support and intervention offerings designed to help students thrive, as well as the curriculum we utilize in these interventions. The morning also highlighted the importance of school and family communication and shared effective strategies for parents to help their children at home. It was a morning of collaboration and community, ensuring that by working together, we can help our students reach their full potential.
Family Fun Night
Thank you, Evergreen community, for coming together to make our annual Family Fun Night such an amazing event! Families enjoyed a memorable evening filled with excitement, games, and entertainment. From delicious food to lively robotics demonstrations by Team Sprockets, and tunes spun by our talented DJ, there was something for everyone. Carnival games, caricature artists, the classic cake walk, and more brought smiles to all. It was truly an evening of fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories. We can’t wait to see you all next year!
Costume Parade
This past week, Evergreen held its annual Costume Parade, and it was a blast! Parents, families, and community members packed the campus to cheer on hundreds of students in their amazing costumes. We saw everything from superheroes to movie characters, and even one student dressed as a BOBA drink! Music was playing, cameras were snapping, and the crowd was full of smiles and cheers—it was the perfect way to kick off the day and celebrate our Evergreen community.
Fun Club having a blast with games and prizes
New Lawn Games for Students!
This month, we're excited to introduce new lawn games at recess, thanks to the generosity of our Community Club! Our 4th and 5th grade students recently piloted these activities, which include corn hole, giant UNO cards, Jenga, and Connect Four. These additions provide more options for our student leaders to "sharpen the saw" by fostering teamwork, strategy, and fun during recess. We’re grateful for the continued support of our Community Club, which makes opportunities like these possible for our students!
