Message from Principal Adam Mitchell
Today was definitely an adventure with our planned, and surprise, safety drills!
Our first drill this morning, a "secure" drill, was planned, and our students and staff did an excellent job of conducting the drill. A "secure" drill is when the exterior doors of the building are locked through an electronic mechanism and all students and staff come inside. Inside the building, it is business as usual in the classrooms and hallways.
As our prior email stated, the lock-down system was triggered in the early afternoon through some routine work being done on the building. Our students and staff again knew exactly what to do and executed the drill perfectly. Once the source of the initiation of the drill was discovered, it was quickly reversed and the school returned to normal. We appreciate the leadership of our office and administrative staff, as well as our district office for their immediate help.
In the end, our building is safe and secure, and we know for sure that our school knows precisely how to handle any safety situation that may arise!
Have a great weekend, and Go Bowmen!
Mr. Mitchell

Confer's Corner- Notes from the Dean
Some students have asked recently why they are assigned lunch detention or community service for skipping class or having excessive tardies to class or why they get tickets for not following the parking expectations. I explain to them that there are expectations in place for a number of reasons such as safety, to maintain order and for them to best be able to engage in their educational opportunities. These are similar expectations that they will encounter after high school if they pursue higher education or enter the workforce and this is the time and opportunity to develop skills to meet expectations placed upon them.
Consistent consequences are beneficial because the expectation is clearly communicated as well as the boundary. With consistent and clear consequences, it helps students understand the outcomes of their actions, which hopefully will promote accountability and learning from mistakes. This consistency also fosters a sense of fairness and equity in how situations are handed.
Our goal with assigning a consequence is always to provide a pathway for growth and reflection so that our students can be as successful as possible and are able to take full advantage of the opportunities they are provided. We appreciate your partnership!

New App for Student Transportation: My Ride K-12
This spring, the Ride 360 app that our district uses to provide families with student transportation information will be replaced by a new app called My Ride K-12. This new app can be downloaded now in the Apple and Android app stores at the links below.
The Ride360 app will be discontinued during the month of May. In order to continue receiving up-to-date information about your student's bus transportation, you will need to download the My Ride K-12 app as soon as possible.
Once you have downloaded the new My Ride K-12 app, you will use your existing Ride360 log-in credentials to access the new app. No further sign-up is needed - all of your student's information, including route, will automatically transfer over to the new app!
For questions or assistance with the new My Ride K-12 app, please contact our Transportation Department at 503-825-5900 or by email at transport@sherwood.k12.or.us
Plant-Based Options Coming to School Lunches in May
Due to increased interest in plant-based diets and products, starting next month the SHS Nutrition Team will be preparing vegan entrées to serve in addition to the regularly scheduled menu on Mondays. Featured brands will include Impossible Burger, Dr. Praeger's and Rebellyous Foods. Students and parents may learn more about these brands and products (including allergens) by viewing the menu here, and hovering your mouse over the entrée name.
These items may be vegan but we encourage students of all dietary-preferences to give them a try if they wish!
Have any questions? Please email us at nutrition@sherwood.k12.or.us.
