A Message To Families From Mr. Peck
Riverview Families,
We are blessed at Riverview, and throughout Farmington Public Schools, to have so many dedicated, talented, and impactful people working with our learners. One group that really stands out is our paraprofessional team. Each day they work side-by-side and hand-in-hand with our learners to ensure they are getting the support they need to be successful in all areas of school. Every one of our 28 paraprofessionals approaches their work with great skill, and the learners they work alongside with great care. Simply put, we would not be able to provide such a tremendous learning experience at Riverview without them!
This week is paraprofessional appreciation week throughout the state of Minnesota and it gives us a special opportunity to show our gratitude for these outstanding individuals. We are grateful for all they do for our school, our students, and our community. They truly make a difference every day!
And since we are focusing on paraprofessionals, I will remind you that we actually have an opening for a para position right now. If you are interested in working with a tremendous team, hanging out with some awesome kids, and having a positive impact in your community, please click here or reach out to me at speck@farmington.k12.mn.us. 😀
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Best wishes for a great week!
Shawn Peck
Principal

Riverview Welcomes New Paraprofessional, Ms. Peni Moss!
Riverview welcomed Ms. Peni Moss to our team after winter break. Peni has lived in Farmington for almost 30 years, where she raised her two kids, Latifah and Tony, with her husband David. Before joining the Riverview team, she was a daycare provider for almost 20 years! She will be working directly with learners with special needs and helping them be successful and meet their goals at school. "I'm thrilled to be working at Riverview," she shared. "I've always enjoyed working with kids and families, and I'm excited for this opportunity."
No School on Monday, Jan. 20 For MLK Jr. Day of Service
From doi.gov - Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service (MLK Day) is the only federal holiday that is also designated by Congress as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.”
Acts of service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community. It breaks down barriers by bringing people from different backgrounds together and it benefits those who choose to serve. Coretta Scott King said, “The greatest birthday gift my husband could receive is if people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds celebrated the holiday by performing individual acts of kindness through service to others.”
It is Paraprofessional Appreciation Week! Thank You, Paras For All You Do!

Mark Your Calendars: Family Movie Night is Friday, January 24!
Join us for a night of fun at Family Movie Night! The students voted watching the film, Wild Robot (which is based on a great book trilogy by author/illustrator Peter Brown). Doors open at 6:00 and the movie will start in the cafetorium at 6:20. The school store will be open and popcorn, candy, water, juice boxes, and fruit snacks will be sold in addition to the usual items.
This is not a drop off event. Parents/guardians must stay with their child for the duration of the movie. Families are welcome to bring blankets and lay on the floor or sit in the cafetorium chairs, but should stay together with one another. It should feel like a movie theatre atmosphere so we can all enjoy the movie.
Farmington Student Experience Survey To Take Place in February
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the students in our district. ISD 192 values input from our students as they are important partners as we work to improve our communication, academic programming and overall experience for everyone.
In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for feedback from students in grades 3-12 via an online survey they will be completing at school during the window of February 3-14, 2025. The survey should take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential.
Your Privacy
All responses in the student survey will remain confidential to protect individual privacy. You may review a copy of the sample survey questions online by clicking on the link below:
If you do not wish for your child to participate in the Farmington Student Experience Survey being conducted, you may opt out by completing this "Decline Survey Participation” form and returning it to your child’s teacher or main office by January 31, 2025.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact your student’s building principal.

Have a Plan For Emergency Late Starts, Early Releases, or FLEX Learning Days
As the weather cools down and we head into the winter months, please take a moment to review the important winter weather information below. Ensure you have a plan for all possible emergency closure situations (late start, early release, or flexible learning day).
Families with child care needs should have alternative arrangements made in advance in case there is a need for a flexible learning day or should weather occur during the day that causes an early release from school. There may be a need to delay the start of school pending improving weather conditions. This may also necessitate alternative child care arrangements.
Important winter weather information can be found at the following links:

We Need Your Help! We Are In Need of More Paraprofessional Substitutes
Our paraprofessionals are a vital part of our team and they do so much every day for our students. Like everyone, they have to miss work from time to time due to illness, family matters, etc. When that happens, it leaves our learners with less support. And unfortunately, often times these absences go "unfilled" due to a shortage of capable and willing subs. That is why we are asking for people in our Riverview community to consider being a para sub. The pay is $15 per hour and you can work as much (or as little) as you want. Whether you sub one day or every day, each time you enter a classroom, you are responsible for the helping the most important resource we have in our school -- our children.
If you would like to sign up to sub as a teacher or paraprofessional for the Farmington Schools you will have to apply through Teachers on Call (TOC). Please email or call TOC directly at 1800-713-4439 or apply online at teachersoncall.com.
