We Love Garfield Teachers!
This week is Teacher Appreciation day and our Cubs appreciate their teachers! Garfield teachers work countless hours, weekends, evenings, summers, and every school break prepping and preparing lessons and activities that engage our students in learning. They genuinely care not only about your student's grades but your student's developing character and wellbeing. If you see your student's teacher this week, be sure to say thank you!
School Nurse Appreciation Day
May 8 is National School Nurse Appreciation Day, and Garfield has the best of the best! Nurse Hasmik, Nurse Breanna, and Nurse Deanna Silva care for our Cubs with kindness and compassion for a variety of illnesses and injuries. If you see them this week, be sure to say thank you!
It's Time for State Testing!
The state testing window this year is May 6-31. All students grades 3-6 in elementary across California will participate in these tests and it is our students opportunity to show how much they have learned. We're very excited about the progress our Cubs have made in the 23-24 school year!
What to expect: All students will take the English language arts (ELA) and math tests online. Additionally, 5th grade will take a science test. Your child's teacher will notify students and parents of their specific test schedule.
How can you help? We value the partnership with our parent community throughout the school year and hope you can reinforce the following concepts for test preparation at home.
- Come rested, relaxed, and ready
- Eat a good breakfast
- Take your time and stay focused
- Think positive thoughts!
Need to Pick Up Your Student Early?
When picking up your student early, please come to the office first to sign them out. We will then call your student from class to minimize disruption to the classroom and maximize instructional time for your child.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Our state testing window is May 6-31. We ask that early pick ups be
limited to urgent situations only. Please make appointments after school when possible.
Every time a student is called from the classroom it creates a distraction for other students who are testing. We appreciate your consideration for ALL our Cubs!
Garfield Cheer 24/25
C-U-B-S Garfield Cheer wants the best, and that's YOU! All Cubs entering 4th-6th grade are eligible for our cheer program. Do you love to dance, and have fun with your friends? Do you love to yell, and show your school spirit? Come on out to cheer tryouts!
An informational parent meeting will be held on: May 7th at 5:30pm. Come hear what our program is all about, and get all of the necessary tryout information. To be eligible to tryout we will need your signed cheer contract, and you must attend all clinics and tryouts. Clinics will be held May 14th -16th from 3:00-5:00pm in the Cub Cafe. Tryouts will be Friday, May 17th starting at 3:30pm. All Cubs make a team! Whether you have years of experience, or interested in learning a new skill, we have a place for you. If you are interested in our team, but have a conflict during these dates, please contact Coach Michelle Schoenwetter at michelleschoenwetter@clovisusd.k12.ca.us Go Cubs!
NEW Student Registration for 24/25 Now Open!
New student registration is available online at www.cusd.com, followed by an appointment at the school. The student’s birth certificate, immunization records, and proof of residency in the Garfield area must all be uploaded into the online registration form prior to coming to school for your registration appointment. The online registration may be accessed through a link on the Garfield website as well as the CUSD website home page. After completion of the online portion, please contact our office to schedule an appointment with our registrar to complete registration for your student. Classroom placement will be at random, not by the date and time registration is completed.
To be eligible for kindergarten for the 24-25 school year, your child must reach 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2024. To be eligible for Transitional Kindergarten, your student must turn 5 between Sept. 2,2024 and Apr. 2, 2025. Please note that you must live in the CUSD defined Garfield area to attend school at Garfield. You may confirm this on the CUSD website. Only a parent or legal guardian may register a child for school. If you are currently a custodian of a child or a foster parent, please contact the CUSD office of Student Services and School Attendance at 327-9200 for assistance.
