LUNCH VISITATIONS IS OPEN NOW
LUNCHROOM VISITATION
- Adults who listed as PARENTS or GUARDIANS in the child's record; and
- Adults who have a signed note from a PARENT or GUARDIAN that gives them permission to eat lunch with that child specifically on that day.
Please remember we are a large campus with a lot of children and families. Our space in the cafeteria is limited. Please choose the times you decide to each with your child sparingly. If the cafeteria begins to have problems with seating space, we will have to put more restrictions on our lunch room visitation.

KINDERGARTEN AND FIFTH GRADE GT SCREENING
The Texas Education Agency requires school districts to offer GT screening opportunities to all Kindergarten students and to collect multiple measures during the identification process. Katy ISD considers parent observations, classroom observations, and standardized test scores in the identification process. The window for this process is open and begins with an initial prescreener given to all kindergarten students in accordance with TEA guidelines.
GT screening information packets will be sent home with kindergarten students the week of August 23, 2021 apprising parents of the opportunity to refer their child for screening and inviting them listen to the parent information session that will be posted on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 on the Katy ISD website/GT website. The Kindergarten Parent Checklist is included in the information. Parents who wish to refer their child for screening must return the Parent Checklist to the campus on or before October 1, 2021. Key dates for kindergarten screening are summarized below.
Since kindergarten teachers play an important role in the screening process, the campus Challenge teacher will meet with kindergarten teams in late September to provide information about kindergarten screening and the role of the kindergarten teacher. The Challenge teacher will provide information to assist kindergarten teachers in completing the Classroom Observation and referring students for whom GT screening may be appropriate. Kindergarten teachers are encouraged to submit names of students for whom GT screening may be appropriate to the Challenge teacher.

FIFTH GRADE GT SCREENING
Gifted and Talented (GT) screenings for incoming secondary students will soon begin at Katy Independent School District. Students currently in fifth grade who are not identified as part of the elementary Challenge Program have the opportunity to be screened for GT program services, at the secondary level.
If parents would like to refer their child for secondary GT screening they must complete a Secondary Parent Checklist in English or Spanish and return it to their child's elementary campus by September 22, 2021.
“Gifted and talented education programs provide a variety of academic and social options for students who are advanced learners," said Katy ISD Director of Gifted, Talented and Advanced Academic Studies, Dr. Joan Otten.
Secondary gifted program options are available in English Language Arts & Reading, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Students may be screened at their current campus in October and November in any or all of these content areas. Parents will be notified of the placement decision by U.S. mail in January 2022. Students who qualify for the GT program will begin the program in the fall of their sixth-grade year.
Contact the Challenge teacher at your child's elementary school if you have additional questions.
Information was distributed to parents of KVA students via e-mail on August 26th. Parents of KVA students should fill out this form to have their child screened. Parents of face-to-face students should contact the Challenge Teacher on their campus directly.

COVID HOME TESTS
There has been several questions regarding home covid tests.
The positive test result documentation must include (1) the person’s name (2) date of birth/SS# (or other identifying information) and (3) result. It should come from a doctor’s office, medical lab, testing facility (i.e.: Katy ISD’s Testing Center), etc.
Some of the protocols in the Safe Return To School Plan discuss the option to produce a laboratory confirmed test result.
Over the counter tests would not qualify as a laboratory confirmed test.
District Safe Return to School Plan 2021 - 2022
The SAFE RETURN TO SCHOOL PLAN will be changing and updating throughout the school year as the guidelines and regulations change from various agencies governing over Texas school districts. It contains valuable information that will outline our procedures we will follow with your students on campus.
It is recommended our KISD Families review this site periodically throughout the year to note any changes in the plan.
Below is a button that will highlight any changes or updates to the plan.
