Happy Sunday!
Hello HHES Families,
How quickly things change. On Thursday, the air quality index was at 226 (very unhealthy) at noon, and by noon on Friday, it was down to 20 (healthy). Thank you wind and rain! I know students were happy to get outside for recess because they haven’t been able to go outside all week. Hopefully, this rain will take care of the fires burning in our state.
We had a wonderful time welcoming our community members for a school tour on Tuesday. We visited our first grade and transitional kindergarten classrooms. It was a great opportunity to share with our community all the amazing things going on at HHES.
This year as flown by and I cannot believe we are starting conference week. By now all teachers should have reached out to you for a conference. If you don't have a conference scheduled, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher. Remember students are released at 11:15 am every day this week.
I would like to take a moment to talk about parent drop off in the morning. It is important to remember that our school day begins at 8:00 am. Teachers have lessons prepared and ready to start their days at that time. It is difficult to get into a routine when students are arriving at school after 8:00 am. There is a lot of learning time that is lost due to the staggered start time for some students. After conference week, starting at 8:00 am, we will be having students checking-in and entering through the office. We open our doors for students at 7:40 am and drop off traffic doesn't pick up until around 7:50 am. Please help us optimize learning time, by having your students to school on time.
This week we also have our Scholastic book fair. I hope you will join us. There is more information below.
On Saturday, 10/29 we have our annual Halloween event. I look forward to this event every year and I hope to see all of you there.
Reminder - there is no 5th grade band during conference week.
Have a great week!

Halloween Carnival and Trick or Treating Event on 10/29!
On October 29th, the HHES PWT is excited to bring back the Halloween Carnival and Trick or Treating this year! This is a super fun event for the whole family! The kids enjoy
dressing up, seeing their friends, and having fun.
Upon entry kids will be given tickets to play a round of the carnival games. Tickets will be available to purchase for extra rounds of play.
To ensure this event is a success and we don’t run out of candy, we ask that each child attending please donate two bags of candy to the elementary by 10/27. These can be fed to our “candy monsters” located in the lunchroom and the 200 building. Candy can also be left at the front office. You can also make a cash donation for candy on the cheddar up link.
We are also requesting cupcake and cookie donations for the cakewalk, and pumpkins and mums for the photo area. A teal pumpkin exchange table will be available for those with food
allergies to exchange unsafe candy for safe alternatives.
Popcorn and cotton candy will be available for purchase.
Popcorn will be $2/bag
Cotton candy $3/cone
We will also be pre-selling pizza by the slice or whole pie. Both pepperoni and plain cheese will be available. Water will also be available to buy. Only a limited quantity of pizza will be available to purchase at the carnival, so please pre order to ensure you don’t miss out.

Students are able to shop any morning before school beginning at 7:45 am. Classes will also be stopping by throughout the week during their designated time slot. This is an opportunity for them to shop at the book fair as well.
Parents and students can stop by anytime during 11:30 am - 3:30 pm to visit and shop. Your family is also able to shop at our Family and Friends Night on Tuesday. Families and Friends are invited to join us Tuesday evening for book fair shopping. If you spend $30 or more during Family and Friends night you receive a FREE poster.
