Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a joyful holiday season and enjoyed a well-deserved break. As we begin this new year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the wonderful start to the school year we've had. Our Grade 3's and 4's had an amazing concert that was enjoyed by many friends, parents and grandparents. Thank you for the support and encouraging words.

We want to welcome back all our students! We are so proud of all your hard work and growth so far. Let’s keep that energy going as we tackle new challenges and continue to learn and grow together.

January is Numeracy month! We will be starting 2025 with an assembly with a focus on numeracy and we will be playing with numbers all month. I want to encourage you to join the fun by playing math games at home with your children. You can look on our website to find different math games to play together under the Parents dropdown menu.

As we move into the coldest time of year, please remember to send warm outerwear with your children to keep them safe while playing outside. We will try to have as much time outside as weather permits.

Kindergarten registration for the 2025-2026 school year will open on January 6, 2025. To be eligible, children must be five years of age on or before December 31, 2025. The registration process will take place online at www.hsd.ca. If you do not have access to the Internet, please visit the school office and we can assist you in completing the registration on a school computer.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to register their children soon after registration opens in January. Early registration will assist us in preparation and planning for the upcoming school year. Registering before March 1, 2025, will ensure there is sufficient time for school appointments and provide parents/guardians with the opportunity to participate in Kindergarten orientation activities. Get ready to kick off a fun-filled January as Mitchell Elementary celebrates Numeracy Month! Throughout the month, students will explore exciting math games that help them build their number sense. Each week, each grade will learn at least one new math game to challenge their skills. Every morning, we will start the day with a math joke. If your child knows a math joke, they can drop it off at the office!

On Fridays, students can show off their creativity with Math Dress-Up Day, where they can wear a number, pattern, shape, or something that is math-y and earn a draw ticket for a prize. Finally, don’t miss Family Game Night on January 23, where students can invite their families to join in the fun and learn math games together. Numeracy Month is going to be full of laughter, learning, and prizes!

Mitchell Hanover Parent Child Community Program (HPCCP)

Do you have a child that is kindergarten-age or younger?

Do you have some free time during the day?

We have the place for you!

Come and visit us for a program filled with laughter, songs, crafts, stories, and a snack! We are in the hut at Mitchell Elementary School on Tuesdays from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm and Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Just look for our sign in the hut’s door window!

Can’t make it for the whole 2 and a half hours? That’s fine with us! We are drop-in and you are always welcome to come late or leave early if that is what is best for you.

Infants are more than welcome and we cannot wait to meet you and your child(ren)!

Parents are required to stay with their child(ren). We are a free program and pre-registration is not required. Please bring indoor footwear during these snowy months!

In severe weather conditions, the Hanover School Division closes the school and stops the buses.

An announcement is made on radio stations 95.1 FM, 96.7 FM, and AM 1250 between 7-8 am, as well as on www.steinbachonline.com and as a bulletin on www.hsd.ca

The school fees for 2024-2025 were due the end of September. Please pay online on Parent Portal or bring exact cash or a cheque payable to MES to the school office.
