South MS Friday Blast
September 27, 2024
Weekly Wrap-Up
It's hard to believe September is almost over and we are completing our first month of school! Check out the pictures below of the kick-off assembly for this year's fundraiser that was held this week. Student participation will be recognized with duck rewards and more. The Pink Out Bake Sale was a sweet success - thanks to all those who contributed their time, talent and culinary creations to the effort. The week ended with our Pink Out Flag Football Tournament Friday afternoon. Participants and spectators had fun at this annual event. All proceeds from teams, spectators and the bake sale benefit Grand View Hospital's Breast Cancer Unit. Thank You to all who contributed!!
We finished the ELA benchmarks this week and will finish our fall benchmarks by administering CDT's in science classes next week. We will remind students to do their best to show us what they know so we can help them and support their learning.

If you are looking to start the new school year off with some South spirit wear, we can help out! Based on feedback, we have extended the sale AND now have youth sizes! Click here for the original order form and click here for the youth-sized spirit wear.
Payment must be attached to the order form and may be dropped off at the South MS main office. All orders must be submitted by Monday, September 30th. Don't miss out on some new South MS apparel for you and your children!
Is your child absent/tardy/early dismissal?
If your child is going to be absent, late, or have an early dismissal, parents/guardians can send us an e-mail regarding the absence. Please provide the student's name, grade, and reason for absence (sick, family trip, dentist appt, etc.) and send the e-mail to SMSattendance@pennridge.org so it can be noted on the daily attendance list. That way teachers are in the know about their students. Doctor/dentist notes may also be sent to this e-mail address. Thank you!
Fundraiser Kick-off Assembly
Lunch on the Lawn 2024 & Kona Ice!
We are changing things up this year and are having a Lunch on the Lawn for all three grade levels, however, not all on the same day! You are invited to join your child(ren) for Lunch on the Lawn on either Wednesday, October 9th (6th & 7th grades) or Thursday October 10th (8th grade). All family members are welcome to join us for lunch on our football field. South students will be able to get their lunch as usual to bring outside, but anyone else that is attending should bring lunch with them. You can also feel free to bring a special lunch for your student. You can chill out with Kona Ice, who will be on-site and available for purchase both days. (Flyer and pricing below. 20% of all sales go back to South MS.) To see the invitation, please click on English or Spanish for more information and to sign-up. If you have a student in another grade at South MS, they are welcome to join you for lunch. If you have any questions, please email Duane Renner at drenner@pennridge.org. We hope to see you there!

Urban Air Event - November 8
Join us for an exciting evening at Urban Air - East Norriton, being sponsored by CCN for CCN, SCN, and NCN families on November 8th. Check back for more details as they become available.
Homework Club
After-school Homework Club is up and running. What is Homework Club? Students who are feeling a bit overwhelmed or just need a little help with their homework are encouraged to come to Homework Club from 3:00 - 4:15PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A teacher and/or teaching assistant will be available to help get students back on track with their homework so they aren't trying to play catch-up at the end of the marking period. Students do not need to sign-up ahead of time and are invited to attend as needed. Parents/guardians can pick-up their child after Homework Club or students can take the 4:15PM bus home. Keep in mind that the 4:15PM bus sometimes covers a large territory so it may take additional time to get all the students home. As always, we are here to help.
PHS Fall Play
Pennridge High School Performing Arts invites you to attend their fall play, Peter and the Starcatcher, a story based on the well known tale of Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Many South alumni are in the cast and crew and they would love to see you in Neverland October 17, 19 and 20 at the high school auditorium!
Tickets are available at the door or through the Performing Arts - Theater webpage.
Important PHS Athletic Department News
The Pennridge Athletic Department welcomes guests to our home stadium for the Friday Night Football games! See below for a very important message from the PSD Athletic Department:
Pennridge High School expectations for spectator decorum at events:
- Middle school-aged students must be accompanied by a parent.
- All students should be seated in the stands. The area around the concession area is NOT a play area or hang-out area. Security will monitor this area and ask all to take a seat.
- The use of or throwing of balls inside the stadium is prohibited. These will be confiscated at the gate and not returned to the owner.
- Once someone leaves the stadium, they are not allowed to reenter.
- No artificial noise makers, whistles or sound-producing devices (horns, cow bells, etc.).
- No foul language or indecent gesture will be tolerated, especially towards players, game workers, security, coaches, and officials.
- No throwing confetti, toilet paper rolls, or other objects in the stands, stadium, or on the field.
- No menacing actions or gestures by groups towards opposing players, coaches, or officials.
- No one can run onto the field or play ball during halftime or after the game. Exceptions: ball boys for extra points, field goal kicks, etc.
- At no time, before, during, or after a contest should spectators be permitted to enter the competition area.
- Access to the competition area is limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, and game personnel.
Pennridge is also offering online ticketing. This will cut down on the wait time in lines prior to the game. Individual game tickets and family passes are available at https://www.msbtickets.com/pennridgehighschool/schoolevents
Thank You!

Coding Club
After-school Coding Club begins on October 1st, but it is open enrollment at any time. All students are welcome, and no coding experience is necessary. Students are self-directed and learn or code in languages of their choosing. This year there will even be some robots to code! We meet every Tuesday after school. Information and permission slips are on the window outside Room 112 at South or you can access it here. Contact Celise Hall-Huber at chall-huber@pennridge.org if you have any questions.
Laptops need nightly charging
When the students were issued their laptops, they were instructed to charge the laptop every night. While most students have been faithful in doing so, some need more parental support. So, parents/guardians, we need your help with this. Please remind your child every school night to charge their laptop. We recommend keeping the student's backpack next to their charging laptop so that the laptop not only gets charged but the student also remembers to bring the charged laptop to school the next day. Thanks so much for your help in this matter.
Rachel's Closet
If you want to make a donation to Rachel's Closet, you can drop off donations at South's main office lobby or purchase items from our Amazon Wish List. To learn more about ways you can help our students, please see our flyer here. Thanks for your ongoing support of this much-needed service to our South community.
South Sports Schedules
Fall weather can be quite unpredictable. Games and practices can change at a moment's notice and football, field hockey, and soccer team members are welcome to use the main office telephone to call parents/guardians regarding schedule changes. Keep up with the fall sports schedules here.
Ram Packs are Back!
RamPacks is a CONFIDENTIAL program for families who need assistance with food over weekends. This is a FREE program, without cost to participating students but you must sign up to receive RamPacks. Please fill out this form or contact your child's guidance counselor (lrusso@pennridge.org or mdeflavis@pennridge.org) to sign-up for this program.
