Economic Decision Making and the U.S. Civil Rights Movement
When : Wednesday, January 27, 2016; 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Description :A one-day workshop for fifth-grade teachers that focuses on the economics of the Civil Rights movement during the 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s. Workshop participants will receive lessons and activities related to the Montgomery Bus Boycotts, the March on Washington, Jim Crow laws and the Brown v. Board of Education case. This workshop has no registration fee, materials provided, substitute reimbursement available, and lunch included.
Audience: Teachers - Grades 5 and 8

U.S. Economic History
When: Monday, February 1, 2016; 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Description: To understand history, students must understand economic reasoning. Students apply economic analysis to the events covered in traditional history courses. These lessons are designed specifically to address the GPS in grades 4 and 5 while preparing students for the EOG state assessment. This one-day workshop that meets the GPS in grades 4 and 5 has no registration fee, the cost of a substitute teacher reimbursed, instructional materials provided, and lunch included.

Personal Finance K - 5
When: Thursday, February 18, 2016; 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Description: A one-day workshop for teachers in kindergarten through fifth-grade where teachers learn to use concrete experiences and stories about children to teach personal finance concepts. With the hands-on activities from this workshop, teachers can help the youngest students understand how their economic decisions are important. This workshop has no registration fee, the cost of substitute teachers reimbursed, instructional materials provided, and lunch included.

Using Biographies of Great Americans to Teach Economics
When: Thursday, February 25, 2016; 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Register By: February 23, 2016
Description: A one-day workshop for third-grade teachers that presents basic economic concepts through the lives of great Americans identified in the Georgia Performance Standards. A story from the life of each individual is presented in two formats – an adult “read aloud” and a Lexiled student reading. Lesson plans specific to each great American highlights economic and personal finance concepts from the life of that person. This workshop has no registration fee, the cost of a substitute teacher reimbursed, instructional materials provided, and lunch included.
Audience: Teachers, Grade 3
