Hello Parkwood Families!
Parkwood Upcoming Events:
Monday, October 21st is a half day! In the morning we will be celebrating our Panther Prowl success. We will have an assembly in the morning where students get to pie me or a staff member of their choosing if they earned that reward. We will also have snow cones and water bottles for all students to celebrate hitting our school wide goal! Many students who earned a certificate or a medal will come home with one tomorrow.
Friday, October 25th is our first Popcorn Friday of the year. Popcorn costs 50 cents. If you send in extra money we will use it to cover it so all students end up with a bag of popcorn.
Next week-
- Ms. Fields and Ms. White's class will attend their nature center field trip. Ms. Henley's 4th grade class will be going later on in the year.
- Picture Retakes will be next Tuesday, October 29th.
- Literacy Parade for kindergarten through 3rd grade will be Thursday, October 31st. They will wear costumes they made in class. 4th and 5th grade please look to your individual classroom teacher on what their day will look like. They will attend and watch the younger students during the Parade.
- Finally we have no school next Friday, November 1st.
We are also excited to share some updates regarding our yearbook for this school year! This year, we are taking a fresh approach to creating our yearbook, aiming for a more engaging and collaborative experience.
Yearbook Committee
To ensure a successful yearbook, we are forming a Yearbook Committee comprised of staff members and potentially a few parents. This committee will play a vital role in shaping the yearbook, and we would love for you to be a part of it!
Get Involved!
If you are interested in joining the Yearbook Committee or if you have some fantastic photos from Parkwood events that you’d like to share, we would greatly appreciate your help! You can easily upload your fun photos and express your interest in joining the committee through the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfYxxitm4fiHeIfy-u4MsvVdMyCGJod9xs0uZYbS9t6T0ubUg/viewform
Stay Tuned!
More information regarding how to order yearbooks will be shared later in the year, so keep an eye out for updates. Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. Together, we can create a memorable yearbook that captures all the wonderful moments of this school year!
Below are pictures of Parkwood students and staff during some fun events over the last month!
Thanks again and I hope everyone has a fantastic week!

Girls on the Run is looking for Coaches!
Coach Applications are now open for Girls on the Run! The program begins in March, and each Parkwood team requires 3 coaches to get started. You do not need to be a runner; you simply need to have a desire to support and encourage the next generation of female athletes. Email geikenperezmc@kalamazoopublicschools.net for more information or apply here: https://www.girlsontherunkazoo.org/coach.
Weekend Food Packs
According to the USDA, one in every five children is unsure where they will get their
next meal. By partnering with Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes and CIS of Kalamazoo,
Parkwood is able to send students home on the weekends with food packs- each
designed to provide breakfast and lunch to one (1) student for two (2) days. The goal of
this program is to assist students and their families with their nutritional needs. It must
be stressed to your child that the food packs are NOT to be opened or eaten on the
school bus. They must be opened at home. Please contact Ms. Geiken- Pérez at (269)
548-1538 or e-mail geikenperezmc@kalamazoopublicschools.net if you would like your
student to benefit from this program. If your child has a food allergy or another special
food need, they should not participate in this program. Loaves & Fishes has many
offerings that address food insecurity, including mobile distributions, food delivery, and
pantries at various KPS schools. https://kzoolf.org/ or call (269)343-3663 for assistance.
