Happy Spring Miles Mustangs!
March marks the start of 4th quarter and what we like to call, "the home stretch!" of the school year. At Miles, we try to balance the heaviness that end of year assessments can bring with the celebrations and opportunities for more project-based learning. Our goal is for every student to grow and develop to their fullest potential. I hope you have seen that this year:)
At this time, I'm sure you've seen the fencing upgrades that are happening around Miles. I cannot apologize enough for the timing of the construction. We are doing our best while the crews are working and thank you all for your patience.
Finally, we are so happy that our PTO will again sponsor our Spring Carnival!! The date is set for May 3rd. Please let us know if you'd like to help with volunteering before, during, or after the event. The more support we have, the more games and activities we can offer the students.
Much Appreciation,
Principal Andrea Steele

We are excited to roll out our new Tardy Kiosk! This is a new district initiative created to keep our students safe and accounted for at all times. This new device will assist with tardy check-ins in the front office. As of now, this feature is for middle school students only. All middle school students will be required to carry their school ID.
When checking in, the student will scan their ID and an excused tardy slip will automatically print out that they will take to class. Students will still be required to check in with accompanied by a Parent/Guardian. The kiosk will be housed at the end of our attendance counter next to Ms. Sunshine.
If your child requires a new student ID, please see Ms. Sunshine for a replacement card (cost is $3.00). Student may also use their Student Vue app which contains their ID Barcode. It is our goal to roll out this new feature as we come back from Spring Break.
Middle School Track and Field
Track began Tuesday, March 18th. We will practice from 4:20 to 5:30, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Please ensure your child has all the paperwork and $30 fee turned in.
If your child has already played a sport for Miles this school year, then everything is in order, you'll just need to pay the fee.

Message for parents of Current 5th graders to 7th grade girls:
Want to get your child ready for the fall volleyball season at Miles? Ricardo, Mila's dad, and I are working together to create a volleyball team to prepare for just that. The season starts April 12th and ends in June. If your daughter gets signed up, she will get a jersey and some playing time to get ready for the fall. If you do sign up, in the coaches' box, please add Ricardo Quintero so she can be placed on the team.
The fee is about $120 dollars to play. Practices will be twice a week. Games will be held on Saturdays. Game locations to be announced. We're also working with ASDB to have some of their girls on the team to create a more bonding experience. Please email me if you have any questions.
Counselor's Corner
We are excited to focus on Courage this month for Character Strong! One way to think about courage is “choosing what is helpful, right, and kind even when it is hard or scary.” Courage is one of the traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students be successful in school. Throughout their academic journey, students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal-setting
Here are some "PurposeFull Pursuits" for you and your family to complete together:
Reflect, think, and discuss with your student things you both would like to do, but find intimidating or scary. Maybe it’s a new hobby, trying a new game, sharing your art or invention with others, or going on an adventure somewhere. Give one of these things a try together and take a selfie to capture the memory!
Review courage as a family! Remember that courage is choosing what is helpful, right, and kind, especially when it’s hard or scary. What’s something that you’ve been afraid to discuss with your child? Something that might be difficult to explain about our community or the world.
Have a courageous conversation with your child. It could be about bullying, the environment, uncertainty, etc. Remind them that love, and support are the tools that we can use to practice courage. Discuss as a family for ways you all can practice courage around the issue you discuss. Or even use stories as a tool to connect!
Story Prompts:
A time I (or someone else) showed Courage was _____.
An act of Courage that changed/challenged me was _____.
Warmly,
-Mr. Alex
Garden News
Are you wondering when we'll have more garden work days?
April 5th is the next work day and it will be animal-themed. That means shade for chickens, plants for pollinators, tidying up the turtle pond, feeding the decomposers, and more!
The final work day date changed to April 26th. It will be a more general garden clean-up... to be ready for the school carnival the following week. 🙂
In the meantime, our chicken volunteers are still doing great work on weekends and holidays, families helped start extra plants at home, and two incoming kindergarten parents already asked me how they can be involved with the garden next year. Thank you to everyone who keeps the energy and upkeep of the garden going!
Take care,
Anna
