Celebrating our DHS Marching Band!!
Congratulations to our DHS Marching Band! The DHS Marching Band had an impressive competitive season this year, as they attended three local and national contests.
In our first competition of the year, for the first time in school history, the marching band competed on the national level at the Bands of America Regional competition in Chattanooga. This was one of the toughest competitions in the country this year. While the band did not advance to finals, they had a great performance for their first appearance in a national competition.
On October 19, the band competed at Sprayberry's Southern Invitational where the band won its class and earned the highest ratings in all captions. The band finished 5th of the day among all bands in all divisions.
The marching band concluded its competitive season on October 26 at the Bands of America Affiliate competition at Buford high School. The band earned the highest ratings in all captions and placed second in their class which allowed them to advance to finals. In finals, the band finished 8th overall against bands in all divisions, most who were in the larger divisions.
The Decatur High School Marching Band is 122 members strong and proudly presented their 2024 entitled "The Crown." Click the link below to view the performance from the final competition. Great job, Bulldogs!!

Getting to Know our Bulldogs Coaches...
We are blessed to have so many thoughtful and dedication coaches supporting our student-athletes. We will use this space to highlight different coaches each week!
Sportsmanship Building Integrity
In sports, it's not just about winning—it's about doing what's right. In this clip, professional tennis player Jack Sock demonstrates exceptional sportsmanship during a crucial point in a match. When honesty outweighs competition, it reminds us all that true champions are defined not just by their skills, but by their integrity. Watch how a simple act of fairness on the court can make a lasting impact both in sports and in life.
Tips for a Positive Parent/Caregiver-Coach Partnership
The role of an athlete's parent is challenging for many reasons! Finding opportunities for your child to participate, encouraging them to take risks, celebrating their accomplishments, supporting them through various challenges... It adds up and can take a toll. This resource from the Positive Coaching Alliance emphasizes the importance of building a partnership with your child's coach and provides helpful strategies to do so. There are many valuable lessons our students can learn through sports, many of which are not fun or easy to learn, and having adults who are working together makes the challenging times beneficial!
What are YOUR Youth Sports Goals?
This year, the Bulldogs are partnering again with the Positive Coaching Alliance to enhance the experience of our students, coaches, and Bulldog families. The PCA has a vast number of resources that can help us make the most of our experience.
This resource is an activity we shared last year that aims at helping students and their families determine what their goals are as student-athletes. This exercise can spark some important conversations about how families decide to navigate this experience. Making sure everyone is on the same page about what desired outcomes can help to create a positive experience!
