Solar Eclipse
What we are doing:
- Reminding students of the dangers of looking directly at the sun. This is ALWAYS dangerous without the correct protective equipment.
- Accessing grade/age-appropriate SMCPS resources for learning about the phenomenon, which may include viewing the live stream provided by NASA.
What we are NOT doing:
- Altering dismissal procedures
- Directed viewing with students
There was a press release from SMCPS on March 27th. I've included that below for your reference. As always, please contact someone at school if you have any questions.
Grade 4 and 5 Math Teams
MCAP Assessment Schedules
All students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be assessed in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) provides information to educators, families and the public on student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland state content standards.
We encourage students to come on-time and remain all day. Students who arrive once a testing session has begun cannot enter class until the session has ended. The schedule for each grade level is pictured below.
Do you want to know what taking the English Language Arts/Literacy portion of the MCAP assessment is like? Practice tests for each grade level of the assessment are available.

The LES PTA is looking for volunteers to make this event possible. Sign Up to Volunteer
Parking is available on Duke Street and the Leonardtown Rescue Squad parking lot, but please do NOT block the Rescue Squad entrances. Please do NOT park in the staff parking lot or the bus loop.

Lost and Found
This is a great time for your child to view the "Lost and Found" for items they may have left over the winter months. We will have a "Parade of the Lost and Found" at the Community Gathering on Thursday to help students locate items they may have left behind.
Pre-K Application 2024-25
The application for Pre-Kindergarten for the 2024-25 School Year is expected to open on April 11th. Please encourage anyone you know to investigate this full-time schooling option. Program acceptance is based on income factors, but anyone with a child who turns 4 on or before September 1, 2024 may apply! Look on the SMCPS website for more details.

Seeking PTA Board Members
As the 2023-2024 school year winds down, we are preparing the PTA for the next school year. Events like this school year's Holiday Movie Night, the Valentine MVP Dance, support for school clubs and much more all depend on the PTA, but we won't exist if we don't have board members.
If you are interested in serving on the PTA, please contact the nominating committee at teachersgrants@lesospreys.org for more information. Training is available, and you'll have support from past leaders and PTA members. We’d love to have you lead us into the 2024-2025 school year!
