MAY 15, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
Last Friday, we hosted the fourth grade Track and Field Day at Panther Stadium. It was awesome to see the elementary school students, staff and parents having so much fun on campus. Some of our students went out during lunch to cheer. It was a cool example of community.
Then, on Monday, we took pictures with the senior class on the field with their Class of 2024 yard signs. This has become such a fun tradition thanks to support from the Panther Foundation. Now, we get to see those sign pop up all over our community. I appreciate these moments that remind us of the journey we are on together, as a community, from elementary through high school and beyond!
Tonight, we celebrate our senior award and scholarship recipients. Each day, we move closer to graduating the Class of 2024. I love spring at the high school for all the special moments we get to share with our community and families as we move toward the end of the school year.
I also need to continue to ask for your support in relentlessly reminding, and even nagging, your student(s) to remain academically focused and attentive to their learning through the last day of school. Each spring, I see some students tragically end their school year when they lose focus on their learning. We want to avoid this with each and every student and ask that parents remaining inquisitive and engage with your students to help keep them on track. Thank you for your partnership.
We have our final Possip pulse check of the year going out tomorrow. Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts and insights as we wrap up this school year and start planning for next year.
Have a wonderful, warm weekend. One school, one community, SLPPantherProud!

Plans for iPads this summer
This summer, Spring Lake Park Schools' families with students in grades 1-11 will be able to keep their school-issued iPad at home. Kindergarten iPads will stay at school and those students will receive their iPads when they return for 1st grade in the fall.
For families of grade 1-11 students, if you prefer the school hold the iPad over the summer, please fill out the form in your school's front office. Grade 1-11 students who take their iPad home with them for the summer have the opportunity to use their iPad for additional learning and resources and are expected to return with it for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Graduating seniors: Seniors who are graduating from Spring Lake Park Schools district after this school year need to turn in their school-issued iPad, case and Apple charger. Seniors will return their technology on Tuesday, June 4 during their rehearsal for graduation.
- Students not returning next school year: Students and families who will not be enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year should turn in their iPad, case and Apple charger to their home school office, or the District Services Center at 1415 81st Ave NE, Spring Lake Park, MN 55432.
- Looking ahead to 2024-2025 for 5th and 9th grade: Students entering 5th and 9th grade will receive a new iPad, case and charger. Watch for further communications for a summer exchange date.
For technology support during the summer visit the iPad Resource Hub or contact the Technology Services Department at techsupport@district16.org or 763-600-5555.
Outstanding School Fees: How to pay through Campus Parent Portal
As we near the end of the 2023-2024 school year, we ask that families pay any outstanding fees they may have acquired throughout the school year. Fees could range from technology to library books and music fees. To check if your family has any outstanding fees and to pay for the fees, login to Campus Parent Portal and click on "Fees" located in the left-hand black column. We ask that families pay all fees by June 30, 2024.

Hands-on Career Exploration at SLPHS
The Army Mobile Medical Unit swung by Spring Lake Park High School to provide an opportunity for hands-on career exploration. Students wore goggles to simulate impairment and then had a chance to do a field test for balance. They practiced lifting dead weight as they might in a rescue. Then, they explored the full simulation of a mobile medical unit.

"I believe throughout my four years here we have built a strong sense of community among students. Our teachers and coaches really seem to care about us and find ways to give us leadership opportunities and a chance to make a difference."
After graduation, Brianna will attend the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University where she plans to major in Global Business Leadership and continue in dance.
Pathways welcomes state VIPs
Minnesota Department of Education Commissioner Willie Jett toured Spring Lake Park High School Career and College Pathways along with colleagues from Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
The commissioner was joined by DEED CareerForce Division Director Jeanna Fortney, Rep. Matt Norris, and Minnesota Department Education Career and College Success Supervisor Michelle Kamenov. The group came specifically to tour Career and Technical Education spaces and hear directly from students and educators.
Over the course of an hour-long tour, state leaders had an opportunity to interact with Spring Lake Park High School’s three pathways – Technology, Engineering and Design; Business and Entrepreneurship; and, Health and Human Services.
“I’m blown away. There are wonderful things going on in this building and wonderful things going on in this community in terms of partners teaming up in collaboration throughout the year to provide access and opportunities for young people,” says Commissioner Jett. “I feel fortunate to be able to experience it myself.”
