Rowland High School
Week of October 21 to 26
Message from Principal Perez
Dear Rowland High School Families,
We kindly ask for your continued support in fostering a safe and respectful environment for our students and our surrounding community. As you drop off or pick up your student, we urge you to be considerate of our neighbors and mindful of both pedestrian and driver safety. We encourage you to have these important conversations with your students as well.
Please take the following into account:
Obey Traffic, Speed, and Parking Regulations: Adhere to all posted traffic signs and speed limits around the school. Double parking or stopping in restricted areas can create dangerous conditions for our students and neighbors.
Avoid Blocking Driveways: Please do not block the driveways of homes in the surrounding neighborhood. This causes frustration for residents and limits access to their homes.
Respect Our Neighbors' Property: Refrain from parking on or damaging lawns, driveways, and yards. Being a good neighbor includes treating their property with the same respect you would want for your own.
Use Crosswalks: For your safety and the safety of others, always cross streets at designated crosswalks. Avoid jaywalking, which increases the risk of accidents.
Be Aware of Oncoming Traffic: Be cautious when stepping off the curb or exiting vehicles, and remind students to look both ways before crossing the street.
Cyclists, Skateboarders, and Scooter Riders: Whether riding bicycles, skateboards, scooters, or E-bikes, it is crucial to follow all traffic laws. Wear appropriate safety gear, including helmets, and be mindful of pedestrians and vehicles on the road.
Together, we can create a safer and more respectful environment for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and for discussing these important safety guidelines with your student.

Hispanic Heritage Activity
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 to October 15, John A. Rowland High School's Spanish Department hosted a special LoterĂa event during lunchtime on Monday, October 14. Students engaged in this traditional Mexican game, which has roots dating back to 15th-century Italy and was brought to Mexico by the Spanish in the 18th century. Originally played by the elite, LoterĂa gained widespread popularity in the 19th and 20th centuries, becoming a beloved family tradition. At the event, students enjoyed learning about and playing the game, bringing Latin culture to life in a fun and interactive way while honoring its rich historical significance. Thank you, Raiders, for bringing Latin traditions to life.
