Boosting School Attendance!
Oberlin City Schools know how key it is to show up every day, and this month, we're zeroing in on boosting school attendance. We're all about helping our kids make it to class consistently, with both policies and personal connections. With more than 6.5 million kids nationwide at risk of falling behind due to chronic absenteeism, we're tackling this head-on. Education is a game-changer – it leads to healthier and longer lives, as well as steadier jobs. Not to mention the positive impact regular school attendance can have on mental health! When parents come alongside their children and show their support, it can make a huge difference. By emphasizing the importance of showing up to school, parents help instill a sense of responsibility and discipline in their kids. Support from home can boost a student's confidence and motivation. Parents can help by setting a routine, being interested in what their kids are learning, and encouraging them to persevere through challenges. Showing up matters – it sets the tone for a student's work ethic and attitude towards commitments, both in school and beyond!
If you need help or have any questions you can reach out to Director of Student and Family Support Mr. Jay Nimene at jnimene@Oberlinschools.net. Let's keep our students' attendance up and make this month a blast!
Talking Finances w/ Treasurer Mr. Robert Rinehart
The Oberlin City Schools Finance Committee met in February to discuss the funding for Phase II of the District Building Master Plan. Additionally, the committee updated the five-year forecast.
Recently, the Board of Education approved the financial reports which can be accessed HERE.
And, as a reminder, the District offers car charging stations at Oberlin Elementary School. You can either pay with a credit card or app right on site! This is one of the many ways the District is striving for sustainability!
On March 19 voters took to the polls to vote in the 2024 Primary Election. Thank you to all who participated in your civic duty and voted!
As always, parents/guardians can reach out to Mr. Rinehart with any questions or concerns by calling (440) 776-4552 or email him directly at rrinehart@oberlinschools.net.
Work Session
Progress continues to be made on facilities plans for the Oberlin City School District. At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 there will be a work session with the Oberlin City School District Board of Education at Oberlin Elementary School, 210 North Park Street, Oberlin, to review options for facilities improvements in the District. This work session is a public meeting at which after listening to the options for facilities improvements presented by the district, TDA and Hammond Construction, the public will be able to ask questions and provide input. We look forward to seeing you there!
Superintendent's Message
Dear Oberlin School Families,
Dear Oberlin Schools Community,
It’s hard to believe that starting Monday, it will officially be “Spring Recess” for all Oberlin City School District students! The weather may not feel like spring, but the time change and seeing the sunset later is always welcomed!
Along with the warmer temps and longer days comes Spring Sports! Good luck to all our spring athletes!
And with spring comes the annual Lorain County Solo & Ensemble Contest! Our students did a fantastic job showcasing their musical talents! Read all about it HERE!
Here are a few things to keep in mind for the upcoming weeks:
The District will be closed on Monday, April 8, 2024 for the solar eclipse. Our staff is currently working on distributing the free solar eclipse glasses to students. We will ensure all students have safe eyewear prior to being released from school on Friday, April 5.
This summer, Oberlin City School District will offer two Summer Enrichment Camps. The two camps are our K-8 Summer Fun Enrichment Camp and KinderCamp. All Oberlin City School District students are invited to participate in the free-of-charge summer programs. Our camps will offer small group instructional support for students. We hope you will choose to have your child participate and continue to grow with us this summer. More information will be forthcoming in the next weeks regarding the Summer Enrichment Camps.
And, as a reminder, be sure to stay up-to-date on the latest District news by following our Website and Blog Site!
Sincerely,
Dr. David Hall
Superintendent
