A Note from Ms. Hewitt:
In ESL we are finishing our study of Christmas in other countries. We will read two books this week about holidays celebrated around the world, and the history and origin of the Christmas tree. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of these two books by playing Gimkit and writing a response in google forms.
A Note from Mr. Webster in the Design and Modeling Lab:
6th graders have pulled out all the stops in developing skimmers with all kinds of features. Some have 4, 5, and even 6 “wings”. Some even have bunny faces and fiery paint jobs.
We discussed dependent and independent variables and the kids are looking forward to race day 2.0.
As a team, we have implemented an IXL challenge for the students. As they successfully master skills on IXL, they are keeping track of them on a recording sheet. For every 25 skills mastered, students have the opportunity to choose a prize from the IXL Prize Bin in their homeroom. Each classroom has some prizes in their bin already, but we could really use some help to add to the rewards. If you would be willing to contribute some prizes, it would be greatly appreciated.
Suggested prizes: candy, small trinkets and fidgets, special pens and pencils, stickers, stress balls, etc

Homeroom
Payne- We will work on the RACE strategy for writing and continue our vocabulary unit. We will also practice calculating Mean, Median, Mode and Range each week with out Estimation Jar. Each student should have a grade level appropriate chapter book that they are reading at all times. They are welcome to borrow one from the classroom library. We will do a Book Report after the break so please make sure your child has a book chosen over the holidays to begin when we return.
Phillips- We will use Reflex, IXL, and ALEKS to practice reading and math skills. The ALEKS goal is to practice 15 minutes per school day and learn 5 new topics. Each student should have a grade level appropriate chapter book that they are reading at all times. They are welcome to borrow one from the classroom library and we will go to the school library again on 12/16 and 12/17. Quarter 3 book reports will be assigned in January. Many students are still forgetting to charge their Chromebooks, a gentle reminder will be very helpful. This is the time of year when allergies, dry throats, and common colds ramp up. If you could send in a few boxes of tissues and or small bottles of water, that will be great! Thank you so much for supporting our classroom.
